How to Save Money at Lancaster Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Always nice, always reasonably priced, they don't suggest procedures or medications that your dog doesn't absolutely need. I have been here multiple times and each time I discover a doctor that I love more than the last. I haven't met anyone here I don't like, they are in a hurry to serve but always polite. Will continue to come here for my pets needs.

Great vets Mr and Mrs Bohannon met in veterinary school ... Theirs is a great story and they provide excellent care... My only issue is is them coming back their hours which they deserve they are relying on substitute veterinarians being available when the clinic is open... and that is my only issue was Lancaster animal clinic... Sometimes the substitutes show up and sometimes they can't... life happens... I need to have vets there when the clinic is open... So yes take your pet there you'll get excellent care... Just be sure to call before you arrive at the clinic to make sure a veterinarian is there on site. Bohannons have a great legacy with their name on it.!!!

I had the most incredible visit at Lancaster Vet today. Dr Shari Bohanan, Conner (going back to Tx A&M tomorrow) and Brandon were so reassuring when I brought my lab in for a needle biopsy for a tumor on her leg. They were efficient, professional, kind and reassuring. I got a call from Dr Bohanan a few hours later explaining our options. We will be loyal patrons to Lancaster Vet with our 3 additional dogs and 2 cats. Thankyou Dr Bohanan, Conner (get good grades in school, we are all routing for you) and Brandon for taking such good care of my sweet Emma. We will be Back! SheilahStorch Update 6/19/25 Today I returned to Lancaster Vet for my cat 🐈‍⬛ Winston who was deathly ill. We had taken him to urgent care but the medications were not working and he had shut down and stopped eating and drinking. I walked in with no appointment distraught thinking Winston may not come home. Dr. Pipes diagnosed him quickly and provided a steroid injection and antibiotics. He cautioned I would know if it would help within the next 24 hrs. We went home and within 9 hours Winston was eating and drinking again. Everyday he makes incremental progress. Thank you 🙏 Dr. Pipes for saving Winston. Grateful to you and your amazing staff. Sheilah Storch

It’s too bad they don’t have more than 5 stars because Lancaster Veterinary Clinic deserves more than that. We needed a vet on a Saturday & as many of us critter owners know, we don’t have many options. They took us in as a walk-in, a first come, first serve basis. After waiting for a while, one of the vets came out & thanked us for waiting and that it wouldn’t be long. While we waited, a loose dog came to the door. One of the vet techs stood outside with him and gave him love and water. When it came time for Bella, they treated her well and with care. I will always recommend LVC & now have them in my phone as an emergency vet for my fur babies.

From the time we walked in everyone was very professional and kind.. They really treated my cat well and made a very anxious cat mom at ease.. Dr. Bohanan was awesome she went over and beyond in treatment and explaining possibly causes.. I was very surprised at the end when the visit, blood work, injections, medication and food was not expensive at all, I was expecting a way bigger bill!! I would recommend anyone with pets to use them.. we definitely have made them kit Katt veterinarians!!
