How to Save Money at Animal Medical Clinic Reproductive Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've waited several months to write this review to ensure that I was able to remove my emotions from it. I am only going to state the facts. 1) My 8 year old Boxer suddenly got sick and it was concerning enough that I felt the need to take her to the doctor. 2) She had been experiencing incontinence issues for some time and received treatment from her usual veterinarian, but was otherwise healthy leading up to this time. 3) I took her here because all others in the area were full. The vet diagnosed her with pancreatitis and said she needed to stay overnight for them to administer antibiotics. I agreed and received permission to come back the next day to check on her. I did go in to check on her the next day and there wasn't any improvement. 4)I was assured that I would receive follow up calls from day one, but no one ever called me. The next day (after the 2nd night at the hospital) I called again to check on my dog and no one answered. I finally called again later that day and received an answer but by then it was too late for me to visit. I received a call the next morning (after 3 nights) from the doctor. When I answered he said " I just wanted to let you know we lost Lexi last night." I was shocked and asked for him to repeat himself thinking maybe I heard him wrong. He couldn't possibly have just blurted out that my dog died without so much of an "I'm sorry to say" or "I regret to inform you...". I asked if he know the ultimate cause of death and he said, "well I told you she had pancreatitis, that can be deadly." My dog died and he showed zero empathy. Also, why did she need to stay overnight if there wasn't anyone there at night to monitor the animals? I would have happily picked her up every day and took her back in for her next round of treatment. 5) All of my research on pancreatitis in dogs showed that my dogs symptoms were not consistent with the diagnosis and that the type of testing performed was not reliable for such diagnosis. Things happen, dogs die everyday. My biggest issues here were the lack of communication and the COMPLETE AND UTTER LACK OF EMPATHY/BEDSIDE MANNER. All in all, this was a heartbreaking experience and I would NOT RECOMMEND this Animal Hospital to anyone who cares about their animals.

Took my dog here after spending much of the previous night at the emergency vet with him. I told this vet what the emergency vet had said needed done and asked if he could do the same treatment (shave and scrub the wound, give antibiotics and painkillers if needed) - the doctor ignored what I said, told me to stop all of the meds the emergency vet gave me except antibiotics (including the topical antibiotic and painkillers) and that my dog would be fine, even though he hadn't not eaten in two days and was crying nonstop in pain. He kept getting worse and I had to take him to another emergency vet the same night, who treated him exactly the same way that the first emergency vet had said, and told me to keep all of the meds that this vet had told me to discontinue! He got much better after the second emergency vet visit. I would NEVER take another animal here again.
