How to Save Money at Krum Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

At the beginning of the year, I brought my dog in. One of the services that we had paid for in advanced was a fecal flotation. They gave me the plastic little vile to put the sample in that way I can drop it back off to them on a later date. I was never told that there was a time limit on it to be done and to bring it in when I had time. Now Im told that I would have to pay for it all over again for it to be done and that it’s over a 50 dollar charge. I paid for a service that never ended up getting done. Ponder vet charges $31 and TCAP charges 25 for the same service. Can I get my money back since you never did the service? Before I had the chanceto bring the sample in the following week after that visit, I ended up having an accident where I was bedridden for 6 months and I had to end up having spinal surgery four weeks ago because of it. I even had to cancel my last appointment with you because of my accident. One of my family members had thrown away the plastic vile while they were helping me when I was bedridden. If I had known that it would’ve expired within 5 months, I would’ve had a family member or a friend Drop the sample off months ago. Since I wasn’t given a timeframe, I thought that I would still be able to take the sample in since it would still be with the year.

This is hands down the best vet I have been to! Every single person we interacted with was so kind and helpful. I brought my dog in for a last minute vaccination and they were able to fit her in and take care of everything she needed. My high-energy dog is usually pretty nervous at vets, but she seems to love it here. I have also boarded my dog with them twice and she came back happy and well-cared for! So grateful I found Krum Veterinary Hospital and would recommend to anyone in the area!

A good friend of ours recommended this vet, and we are so happy she did. Our dog was feeling sick, and they took care of him right away. Super easy to make an appointment, and they have a great app as well. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We will be taking our pup to her regularly.

I legitimately can not express how grateful I am for this vet, there love, compassion and understanding. Me and my wife have a 9 month old daughter and 4 dogs! Lol. It's alot. It's difficult to schedule accordingly when we both work full time and financially challenging as well. Not only is there veterinary services above and beyond, but there understanding with scheduling baffles me. I have had to reschedule so much that it got to the point where I offered to pay a fee lmao 🤣 I've had my own painting business and I know how that can cause headaches. Well, they have not charged me.....knock on wood lol. They've been nothing but kind. And what a relief because we already have so much going on. They also do not bad mouth other vets, this is a testament to there character. We will always be taking our dogs 🐕 Adam, eve, Genesis, and harper here. Best vet ever. Best staff ever. Hands down.
