How to Save Money at I-20 Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is an excellent facility to take your pets for care. I called before I came and was asked what my need was and what my dogs name was. They told me to come in, they were busy but they would get to us. When I arrived, I was impressed by the facility, both inside and out. I went to the receptionist and told them I called and they had all my information from my call. We filled out a form and waited. The facility was very clean, well cared for, and the employees were extremely friendly and helpful. The pricing was upfront and told when I called in on the price to see my dog and also told any additional costs would be provided to me as the process continued. They followed through as they said and I was extremely pleased with the care provided to my dog. If you are looking for a place to have your pet looked at and treated-this place is amazing!! Thanks so much for the care of my dog!!

We found ourselves here under unfortunate circumstances. There are definitely aspects of our situation we wish we could change but coming to this vet is not one. While I do not wish the passing of a pet, if you do find yourself in need, this is 1000% the place you want to be. All of the staff is gracious and gentle while remaining honest to the situation at hand. Should we ever find ourselves on the other side of pet ownership again, we will be seeking routine care here. Edit: after spending the last hour reading reviews (as if I needed another reason to cry right now) I did want to mention pricing as that seems to be what the majority of the negative reviews are about. We knew that going to a vet at 10pm on a Thursday wasn’t going to be easy on our pockets - it’s just the reality of an emergency. What we did not expect was showing up to a fully staffed and operating establishment. This was not a place where you walk in and are greeted by a ghost town, weird music, and half awake staff. Our experience didn’t differ through the following day and half. During our initial visit we were given an itemized estimate with low and high price points for the recommended treatment. Don’t get me wrong, it was pricey, but I believe it aligns with the services they provided. I’m not sure if it’s standard practice to include the cost of humane euthanasia in all critical care patients or if it just lucked out in our case, but we ended up getting a small refund on the low estimate they gave. It was a relief to not have to come up with additional funds on top of the treatment cost we agreed to.

I was pleased with how quickly they were able to see my cat. Diagnosis seemed on point and treatment options were explained. Two recommendations: 1. Staff and doctor should introduce themselves or at the very least wear name tags. Of the 4-5 people encountered, I didn’t know a single person’s name. The doctor most definitely should introduce herself. 2. Treatment estimates should be given regardless of whether a person asks. They did a great job on the phone of explaining what the emergency exam would be, but once treatment options were given, no costs were offered. I would imagine a lot of people would be shocked at their bill if they didn’t know costs ahead of time.

I was referred here by my primary vet as my 13 year old poodle mix had some serious oral problems. Dr. Nolan was great. He did a good job of explaining what was happening in my dogs mouth and what he could do to help. He gave an honest assessment, provided an estimate and they were able to proceed with the work the same day. I was sent home with clear instructions and medicines and a follow up scheduled. I did have to wait about a half hour for my appointment but they were super busy. From what I observed they were very efficient about moving people through but didn't sacrifice quality at all. Very nice staff... glad I came here.

Caring, compassionate, and down right good people. Our sweet baby didn’t make it but the staff tried their best to what they could to save her. The front desk, vet techs, and the vet all handled the whole situation with grace and the highest level of professionalism. Thank you all for your compassion.
