How to Save Money at Refinery Road Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely love bringing my animals here. The staff is always so friendly and helpful and ready to answer any questions you might have. Also the facility is very nice and clean. I truly wouldn’t want to take my babies anywhere else.

My English Springer Spaniel, Field Champion & Amateur Field Champion JoJo's Easy Keeper, became a new patient of your clinic this week. He has been under the very capable care of Dr. Anna Godwin. Although we still don't know the origin of an initially softball sized abscess located at the top of his throat area, the care he has received has been superb. I've owned field trial dogs since 1968 and travel all over the country full time with Keeper and I rarely see as nice a facility or as talented a staff as you have. Keeper appears to be on the mend and that is a great relief to me as he is in the top 30 high point field trial Springers in both the U.S. and Canada...the one you wait a lifetime for! 5 Stars for Refinery Road Veterinary Clinic!

We always get the best care for our fur babies. Dr. Leach and staff showed us such compassion when our sweet Sam was sick and didn't make it. Great people.

They were able to see my cat, KitKat the same day bc it was pretty urgent and my regular vet (in Ardmore) couldn't see him due to their vet being out that week. We paid a hefty bill but they did have to drain his bladder, put in an IV and a catheter and keep him overnight 2 nights. Definitely recommend this vet! Thank you guys for being so caring and even text me a pic of my kitty so we could see how he looked in recovery. We were afraid he might get confused if we stopped in to see him and then leave again so we opted to just check on him and request a pic. 🤗

We had 3 separate experiences- all subpar. The customer service is horrible. First experience the vet didn’t introduce herself to us -we were a new patient- and made me repeat myself no less than 3 minutes after the assistant asked me what was going on. The assistant should have shared the information with the vet prior to the vet walking in the room or even while we were in the room so I didn’t have to repeat myself. The exam of our dog was superficial and I question if vet really heard pup’s heartbeat because vet was talking to me while listening to our dog’s heart. At our second visit we were waiting to see a vet for an hour and 45 minutes and never actually met the vet- and that was WITH an appointment. We were not informed a machine wasn’t working until after I had to go out to the front desk and ask how much longer it was going to be because I had an appointment to get to. And then, we had to leave our dog there for the day and it was clear she was pushed to the back of the line because I had to call regularly to get any kind of an update on her condition. And then, no diagnosis was given. The third experience was a phone call. The desk person made me repeat my information 5 times just trying to locate our records. I requested a call from the vet. Did not get a call back. Not ever returning to this vet.
