How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Can't recommend this Banfield at all. They don't call for reminders nor do they answer the phone when they open. I have two cats who are very friendly, and I've used other Banfield locations nearby without an issue. Sometimes they're not in the mood for blood work or nail trimming, so difficulty with that kind of thing I can understand. Cats aren't always cooperative. What I don't understand is how they handled my cats. They described one of my cats (Toby) as difficult to work with when they called me after the initial checkup. I thought that was strange considering his normal behavior and previous trips to the vet, but hey I wasn't there and he was fasting so maybe he was just in a bad mood today. When I get there, one cat was ready to go, but they had to call me to an exam room for Toby so I could help get him in the carrier. He was uncomfortable but nothing out of the ordinary. He didn't bite or scratch, nor has he ever. Not even a hiss. Plus, his claws were trimmed earlier. Immediately the problem reveals itself once I notice the small side door of the carrier is being used vs the large top entrance where they can be lowered in. Toby isn't a small cat. How would you feel if someone tried shoving you through a small door into a carrier? This is basic problem solving. Once I lowered Toby in and held him in place, the vet tech helped by zipping up the top and ended up doing it too fast so it cut my hand a bit. It happens, but they didn't even apologize? If they won't apologize to humans, what in the world are they doing to the poor animals back there? They did complete the work I asked for though, so two stars! $20 for a nail trim is insane, though.

This place used to be great but the entire staff changed and it really went downhill. There used to be a really personal touch to each visit and that's gone. Some of the people that work there are downright rude. I took my dog there for 10 years and she recently died. I called and told them and they said they'd update her records. That's it. I had scheduled her an appointment at Petfolk because I was switching vets but she died before she could make the appointment and they sent me a sympathy card. The ER vet that put her to sleep sent me a sympathy card. But the place that I took her to for 10 YEARS didn't care that she was gone. If you want a vet that cares for and loves your pet, don't go to Banfield.

The quality of care and customer service at this Banfield location has declined significantly over the past year. It appears there’s been staff changes because there a lots of new faces, which may explain the difference. If you schedule an appointment online, be prepared — they often change it without notifying you, or you’ll only find out at the last minute on the day of your visit. Even worse, they don’t actually honor the appointment times shown online. You can book a slot, but they’ll change it anyway. Why offer time slots you won’t allow people to schedule? Their website shows in-room appointments available until 5:30 PM, yet they claim they don’t take appointments after 4:30 PM. Why stop at 4:30PM when you do not close until 6PM? It would make sense to update their website to reflect that — but for some reason, they haven’t. By the looks of it, this location is manipulating the hours. I’ve had multiple appointments rescheduled without notice. In the past, it was just a few minutes’ difference, so I let it go. This time, I arrived at 4:50 PM for a 5:00 PM appointment for my paralyzed dog, only to be told they don’t take appointments after 4:30 PM even after showing my confirmation email. I was already there with my dog, and was told there was nothing she can do. Save yourself the frustration and wasted time — go to a different Banfield or better yet, avoid all Banfield to be safe.

I do not recommend Banfield Pet Hospital at all. My husband signed up with them back in June. Later, he had to change one of his cards because his identity was stolen and fraudulent charges were made. Just last week, when we tried to schedule our dog’s vaccines, Banfield told us that our subscription had been canceled and that we owed the rest of the annual contract—over $800—which had already been sent to collections. What makes it worse is that even if we paid the balance, they said they would not reinstate the plan. Instead, we would have to start a brand-new contract from zero. We asked to cancel the service, because when we first enrolled we were told that we could cancel at any time. But Banfield said that once it was sent to collections, we were still fully responsible for the amount, regardless. This feels unethical and misleading. They market their wellness plans as something flexible, but in reality they lock you into an annual obligation and use aggressive collections practices even when circumstances are beyond your control. We feel taken advantage of, and I would not recommend Banfield to anyone looking for honest or ethical veterinary care.

Very disappointed with the service. I went to pick up a prescription for my dog, Starr, and was given paperwork that turned out not to be an actual prescription. The pharmacy couldn’t fill it, so I had to make another trip the next day after the office finally sent the correct prescription — wasting my time, gas, and money. I expect much better attention to detail from a veterinary office, especially when it affects my pet’s care. Sadly, this experience left me very unhappy and frustrated.
