How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Childress Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

My mom was taking our dog to Dr. Fuston for a few months and at first he seemed to know what he was doing but later on he started giving us red flags. There were times where we would call for some advice and Dr. Fuston would get mixed up with information and say different things that didn’t make sense. We continued to go anyway (even though we should’ve went somewhere else) and decided to go to them to put our dog down and Dr. Fuston, knowing our dog was in pain, grabbed him by the collar and tried to drag him out of our chevy truck while our dog was just yelling in pain. I kept telling him to stop touching my dog & he kept saying “I just touched his leg” even though that wasn’t true. We proceeded to go and he kept making comments to me as I did the same because I am furious at this point. He was VERY unprofessional and mistreated my dog. He was also impatient, and was rushing the entire process which isn’t how that’s supposed to go. I know he has a job to do and I know he does this job everyday, but i’ve worked at a vet clinic, so I know how things can be done/should be done. and this was not how I planned this experience to go. I will NEVER bring another animal here again.

My dog was either in, or very near kidney failure, Dr. Fuston knew exactly what was wrong and what to do. He also saved my cat from a very bad respiratory infection when she was a tiny kitten.

I have used the Fuston Family operated, Childress Veterinary Hospital, since 1981. They are excellent at what they do. Very honest!
