How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Brownsville Veterinary Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

To say that we are disappointed in this clinic is an understatement. Lola was taken in on Tuesday around 2pm due to topical injuries, possible allergies and severe scratching. We were relieved when this clinic agreed to take her in at the last minute and see her. First off, Lola was taken to another room to be “checked” by the doctor. We didn’t see what happened in that back room nor what was checked. She was brought back to us and we were lectured about heartworm and how terrible it is to dogs. Which was not the issue here. We were told that she had a bad infection and was given three shots, convenia, Polyflex and vetalog. We were sold a heartworm preventative and sent on our way. We asked in the clinic if Lola would be fine and we were brushed away with a simple, yes, she should be fine. NOT ONCE did they perform any blood work. Lola agonized all day, she was lethargic and in pain, we gave her water by dropper and she still wasn't getting any better. We researched the effects of the medication and it mentioned “lethargy” and loss of appetite. WE tried to call the clinic phone number and were met with a generic "our office is closed" message. How is it possible that there isnt a way to "follow up"? Lola began experiencing tremors, or so we thought, we tried to get her to the emergency doctor (which is 60 miles away from us) but it was too late. She passed. Please ask thorough questions and NEVER allow them to administer medication without asking for lab work. She was probably overdosed, over medicated or not treated for the problem she actually had. Never taking our pups or cats to this doctor again.

Instead of making my dog feel better they made him feel worse. They gave him medicine that worsened his state. Do not come here for the sake of your dog.
