How to Save Money at Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Had a wonderful experience! You could really tell everyone there loved animals. A great environment for your pet to heal. I came in with my ex girlfriend who's elderly dog had been attacked by 2 other dogs. She had 18 lacerations and general issues being over 14 years old. I felt our pup received the best care possible, staying multiple days to heal. We were able to visit anytime and had constant updates on her progress. Wanted to say thanks to the doctors and staff for being so amazing!

Our primary vet transferred us to Violet Crown for our cat right before a holiday weekend. We were so scared because we had no idea why the car was so sick so suddenly. We arrived at Violet Crown, and they were amazing. The vet explained what they were going to do and test for. All of the charges were also explained to me. Our cat was there for about 24 hours and I had 3 phone calls to keep us updated. Upon discharge, they thoroughly explained additional instructions and also called to follow up after we were released. Everyone was kind and helpful, and I'm glad to know they are there. Plus, our cat is pretty feisty and they were able to manage her.

Everyone at Violet Crown has been incredibly kind, professional, and gracious every single time I take my pup, King, there. We have been seeing Drs. Kennedy and Brehm for an ongoing issue, and have also gone in for emergency care with Dr. Schlegel. Both the doctors and the technicians have been so helpful and sensitive to our needs and situation, and I can tell that when King is in the back with them, they treat him so well, because he comes back out with a big smile and almost does not want to leave! A huge thank you to everyone there for all that you do and for guiding us through our current crisis!

We had a sudden scare with our senior cat while our vet was closed. Violet crown was wonderful. Everyone I interacted with, from the front desk to the doctor, was helpful and kind. It was a very upsetting situation so I appreciated how smooth our experience was. They used time efficiently, the doctors insights were valuable, and they didn't make me feel rushed or pressured in any way. Our regular vet opened while we were there. Violet Crown even managed to call over and get our records from them, then incorporate that information into the doctors recommendations. It's stressful to have a medical emergency with your pet but it was such a relief to find quick, compassionate, and competent care!

I don’t think I have words to describe how amazing our experience has been with Violet Crown Veterinary Specialists, but I am sure going to try because they deserve all of the praise. We were referred here in January of 2024 by our regular vet after she discovered a mass in our dog Huey’s neck. Violet Crown was able to get us in & assessed quickly, and it was determined that Huey would need surgery to remove his mass. We had experiences with all 3 of the major veterinarians at this practice during our time here. Dr. Kennedy did his surgery. She was kind, communicative, and did a great job. His surgical site was clean, and he was up and back to his usual self within a few days. Dr. Might did his follow up appointment with us, and he was also incredibly kind and personable. We also spoke with Dr Tabares while Huey was in recovery & doing medical boarding pre surgery, and he was also incredibly helpful. After surgery, Huey was diagnosed with an aggressive form of 2 different cancers, but fortunately we were introduced to Dr. Amanda Brehm who is their oncologist on staff. I have never met a more kind, compassionate, and skilled provider. She helped us develop a plan to manage Huey’s cancer & try to give us as much time as possible with him. Unfortunately Huey’s cancer was very aggressive, and we ended up having to help him transition out of his life earthside. It’s never an easy choice, but Dr. Brehm and her staff treated us with so much kindness and empathy around it. The experience itself was as calming, loving, and supportive as it could be. I wouldn’t wish doggy cancer on any family, but if your family is facing this scary diagnoses I can assure you that Violet Crown will be an amazing group of folks to have on your side. I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to help support us through such a difficult experience other than Violet Crown. Everyone from the doctors to the vet techs & admin staff was so sweet and helpful. They all would remember Huey when we would come in for appointments, and loved him just like we did. They never got frustrated or short tempered with me calling 20 times a week with questions or concerns lol. They were always there willing to help in any way they could. They were just an amazing team to have, and I am incredibly grateful for this group of providers for supporting us during this difficult time. Special shout-out to some of Huey’s care team over the last few months including Casey, Lindsay, Forrest, Gracie, Alli, Sam, and everyone else who loved on our sweet Huey. We will definitely be coming back for any of our future pet emergency needs or specialized treatments. Forever grateful for y’all! From Sara, Carl, and our angel in heaven Huey Watkins ❤️
