How to Save Money at VCA Northwest Hills Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I came in today for a last-minute appointment in an emergency and the staff was so kind, so understanding, and fit us into a tight appointment during inclement weather. I'm so truly grateful to them and how graceful they were to me and my partner during a hard time in our lives with our pet. Thank you so much to this staff, I highly recommend their services.

VCA Northwest Hills Animal Hospital has been my family's vet for about 15 years now. Everyone there is so kind and genuine. We had to put our sweet golden down this week and everyone we talked to gave her lots of love. Dr. Morrison always does a fantastic job explaining whatever she is doing and what all the options are. Thank y'all for taking such good care of my babies 💜

So I’m not usually one to leave reviews, but my experience with this office left such a sour taste in my mouth, I need to say something…. We had an appointment for our cat at 5:30pm on 01/09/2026. She had an infection on her tail and we desperately needed to get her in. We’d made the appointment online. But then on 01/08/2026, they had called to confirm the appointment. Sadly we missed the call as both my partner and I were at work. No voicemail was left. We only heard about the call when we arrived for our appointment. Well, to our surprise, because we didn’t get to the phone, they cancelled our appointment. A.) This is bad practice on its face. Appointments should never be cancelled unless there is an explicit request from the client to cancel. B.) We were not notified of the cancellation. We were not emailed nor were we contacted by any means to let us know our appointment had been cancelled. So when they turned us away, we still had a cat with an infection on her tail. We wound up having to take her to Urgent Care to be looked at, where we were charged $856. That’s money that we were out because this office decided to cancel our appointment from under us. EDIT: So I left this review on Friday night, and they got back to me right away when they opened back up from the weekend d today. I spoke with Amy, who was committed to getting to the bottom of what happened and was more than willing to offer apologies and work with us to finding a solution that works for all parties. After a clarifying conversation, I can confidently say I felt heard and listened to. I’ll definitely be giving these folks another chance.

I’m so grateful I found VCA and Dr. Morrison. My sweet Luna was recently diagnosed with early kidney disease. :( As sad as this news is, we have been blessed with the support of VCA team, and our vet, Dr. Morrison. Dr. Morrison is one of the most genuinely caring and compassionate people I’ve ever met. You can tell she loves what she does and deeply cares about the animals and families she works with. She speaks with such warmth and patience, taking the time to explain every step and answer every question without ever making us feel rushed or overwhelmed. She treated Luna like her own and made us feel seen and supported in every way. Thanks to Dr. Morrison’s guidance and the support of the VCA team, Luna is doing okay, and we’re hopeful she’ll continue to live a happy and comfortable life. We’re beyond thankful for the exceptional care and kindness we’ve received here. I truly can’t recommend Dr. Morrison and VCA enough.
