How to Save Money at Animal Dermatology Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve been clients at ADC for 3 years, and highly recommend them. Dr. Diesel picked up right where Dr. Nichols left off. My dog has environmental allergies, and also gets resistant skin infections occasionally. When he gets a flare up, they are always quick to respond to my emails, and fitting us into an appointment when needed. Skin problems aren’t a quick and easy (or cheap) thing to deal with. It’s also something we’ll be keeping in check for my dog’s entire life. Because of that, I’m grateful for an amazing team to work with. My dog is always so excited when he walks in here, which speaks levels due to the amount of biopsies and other treatments he’s had! We always receive a thorough write up after appointments, and I appreciate that they also send that to our regular vet as well so his medical chart is complete.

After unsuccessful treatment of Stevie’s allergies by her regular vet we were referred to ADC for evaluation. We had to wait a few months for our appointment. Our first visit was a very thorough visit. We tried out some additional topical and oral treatments. Unfortunately they didn’t give us the results we were hoping for so we started allergy injections. Those combined with the oral and topical treatments are finally giving us amazing results. The picture shows the difference in one month. Stevie improved so much physically and mentally. I know it’s a bit expensive to get care at ADC but I highly recommend seeing them if your pet needs help. They will work with you to find the best long term solution to make both you and your pet happy!

This location has been very disappointing. The address was listed incorrectly on the website weeks after their move AND still wrong on Google , which is frustrating enough, but what really hurts is how the clinic handled recent changes. Dr. Diesel left and company assured patients they would have support during the transition, yet we were left hanging with unfilled medications and no real guidance. It’s been incredibly stressful, and I cannot recommend this facility. Thankfully, the Round Rock location has welcomed us with open arms. They’ve been stable, reliable, and supportive every step of the way. If you’re considering care, I highly recommend making the drive to Round Rock instead.

Great place and great people! Professional and kind. Dr. Diesel tried a bunch of stuff to get my cat comfortable until we found a miracle medicine for my chronically allergic cat. Definitely worth the visit!

Definitely recommended to go see Dr. Diesel for pet allergy needs. She spent a lot of time thoroughly looking over and examining our dog and answered our million questions. Our dog doesn’t let people touch his paws but did great with Marisol and the Dr. ❤️💯 I do take off one star because we were not advised ahead of time for intradermal testing that all antihistamines needed to be stopped at least 2-weeks in advance and there was some conflicting information regarding how certain medications are given but since we didn’t go home with any, it wasn’t a big deal. Additionally, I would recommend to the facility to put up some sound absorbers in the rooms as they tend to echo and get very loud. We look forward to seeing Dr. Diesel again after a few weeks of our current treatment plan and getting our fluffy butt back to normal.
