How to Save Money at Pet and Bird Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I've been going to Dr. Patel for years and have always had great visits with him. But I'm sad to say this visit is my last. I will not be going back. The front desk staff are rude and act like you're such a bother when you ask questions. Their previous front desk team was amazing and sweet and took great care of my pets and me. They set the standard for good customer service that this new team isn't reaching and from the looks of it, don't care to do so. It's sad, really.

I’m so grateful for this place! They took care of one of my feral cats when he had an infected wound. They were really flexible with scheduling (I had a hard time trapping him) and were able to get him in same day. The vet tech and front desk employee were so kind and helpful with instructions on how to care for him while he recovered. They even had me email photos so they could track his healing without having to bring him in again. He is now happy and healthy! Their prices were very reasonable, and I was also able to use a “community cats” voucher from Austin Animal Center to offset some of the cost. Highly recommend this place, especially for those caring for ferals :)

The staff were direct and efficient, and my dog’s issue was handled without unnecessary extras. For what you pay, the experience is solid and far more affordable than the other clinics I researched. My dog wasn’t manhandled, the front staff got me in right away, and they answered all my questions. They also have a Valpak coupon, but even without it, I’d recommend this place. I’ll be using them again.

I do not recommend bringing your pet here if you truly care about their well-being. This was my second visit to this clinic. During my first visit, I noticed the doctor’s rough handling of my first bunny, but since it was only a grooming appointment, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I also noticed the receptionist’s unprofessional attitude at that time. Unfortunately, my second visit confirmed my concerns. The way the doctor handled my other bunny was completely unacceptable. It was clear my bunny was scared and needed a moment to calm down, yet the doctor insisted on grabbing him repeatedly. My family and I had to step in and ask him to stop so our bunny could settle down. When the doctor returned, the exam was rushed, and the diagnosis did not seem accurate or related to the reason I brought my bunny in. The entire visit lasted less than five minutes, and it felt like there was no real care or concern for my pet. I paid $80 for an exam and medication, but left feeling extremely disappointed and worried. I’m sharing this experience to warn other pet owners please think twice before bringing your animal here.

Took my kitten in for possible ringworm on his nose. The Doc was very rough with my kitten to the point I almost cried. He then proceeded to scratch the scab off my kitten's nose with his fingernail and made him bleed. They also didn't give us instructions on the medication we were provided. My advice for this place is please, please be gentle and show more compassion for the animals in your care.
