How to Save Money at Firehouse Animal Health Center Westlake

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Let me start off by saying we have found a true angel in Dr. BONNET. Never have we experienced such true honest concern for out pets. She is truly amazing. The whole staff at Firehouse is amazing. Always upbeat, professional and friendly. You won't find better care no matter how long you search. They always go above and beyond to make sure you and your pets are treated like friends not just a client. Simply the best. Brett Buchanan

Been going to Firehouse for several years. Dr Faught was great, but has moved to their Bel Terra hospital. We then started seeing Dr Lawton, and she is fabulous. My wife and I love her demeanor, but more importantly her medical skills. We have had two surgeries on our hounds the last three months, and always requests Dr Lawton. She is the best!

Best service and best vet I’ve ever been to. I walked in and was greeted with the warmest welcome. The nurse, ReeAnn, sorry if I misspelled, was amazing with me and my little kitty, Yuki. She immediately made both of us feel calm and comfortable. After our initial talk, we waited maybe four minutes or less for the doctor, which is insanely fast compared to any other vet I’ve been to. While we were waiting, all I could hear was someone singing a Justin Bieber song, and I instantly knew I was in the right place 😭😂 Dr Perez and ReeAnn are truly incredible. Dr Perez laid everything out for me and walked me through every single thing, which made me feel so reassured. After the exam, they offered to give me a full tour of the clinic. We started at the front, then went to the euthanasia room, which honestly felt like a cozy living room, it was perfect. Then I got to go to the actual back of the clinic and see everything. I even saw a little pup getting a small incision done, which was honestly so cool, along with all the puppies and kittens that have been or will be taken care of there. Every single staff member was so sweet. Every turn I made, I was met with a smile and a wave. They made Yuki a personalized name tag for her collar, and even gave me a free bottle of red wine since it was my first visit. I have never left a vet with a smile on my face, but today was the first. A free visit, free treats for Yuki and me, a name tag, a full clinic tour, and the most genuine hospitality. I will forever be sending people to this clinic. Thank yall so much for such an amazing experience

Dr. Nahous and the entire Firehouse team care for all of our dogs. We recently adopted a 10 month old rescue puppy and the team was very gentle, patient and kind as they performed a complementary new puppy physical on a very skittish, unsure puppy. We have been Firehouse clients from the start and they have welcomed new puppies and helped us gently say farewell to our old dogs when the time came. I highly recommend Firehouse Animal Health Center in Westlake.

I had such great interactions, with everyone, the front desk folks, the vet tech, and the vet! I felt heard and educated and they took such good care of my kitty and helped me feel really certain I was taking good care of all my pets. They gave my nervous cat treats to help him calm down, and were very thorough while still patient and gentle with the little guy. A+, I will absolutely be taking all my babies here. (They even gave me a little gift bag as a new customer! Can you believe?)
