How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Banfield Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

My cat, Sophie, who had been with us for over 18 years, had to be laid to rest last Wednesday. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made in my life. We had quite the attachment to each other and it shattered my heart seeing her not live her best life. So I called around to some places. I’ve shopped at this Petsmart for a couple years now and truly appreciate all the folks there. They are genuine people that love what they do. So it only made sense to bring Sophie to the Banfield hospital attached. The staff at the hospital were great and very empathetic. They all made sure to go over each step of the way and make sure we understood the process. I got to hold my girl until she crossed over and we all had one last round of goodbyes with her. I got to pick up her ashes today and I am blown away by the care and love they put into this. I know it’s an outside company that does it, but whomever they are, thank you. Thank you for promptly giving my cat back, taking the care needed and concentrating on the little details that mean so much. Thank you to the staff for their support and kindness throughout. I would definitely recommend their services to pet owners. I’ll miss my multiple weekly visits to the store, but wish you all well and continued success. Thanks for making Sophie’s final chapter just a little bit easier for me and her family. One suggestion, try to get a bigger room for this type of stuff. My bf is a big guy and we were like sardines in there lol.

Since 2020 veterinarian cost has gone up 40%. And it's not like hospitals for humans where like most Americans that can't afford it can just go to debt and they will still be able to see you again and again. It's not like in the movies where they provide you with emotional support and give you a hug and give you all these additional resources for financial assistance. I would say reasonable healthcare because that doesn't exist. It's about profit. It's about doing all these unnecessary things sometimes. And a lot of times you don't even get to see the veterinarian in person to have an in-person relationship. I know I won't ever get a pet again. It's way too expensive and I don't like interacting with people that don't smile. I feel very hurt and Angry.

Margaret and Rebeka were super helpful and nice. Dr. Mayberry was kind and thorough with our cat. I love that we could get an appointment quickly and our cat’s medication was refilled easily.

I had a wonderful experience at this Banfield hospital. Our senior dachshund Lulu has a lump on her rear paw, and I suspected it may have been infected after she injured it when going for a walk. I was able to schedule an appointment for the next day online, and the following morning, I was called and asked if I could bring her in sooner. Luckily, I able to drop her off in the morning and Dr. Tatum recommended a cytology to test the lump for abnormalities, but her bloodwork came back normal. They also did her comprehensive exam with was due, trimmed her nails, and gave her 2 vaccines. We have a virtual appointment in 5 days to discuss her cytology results, but overall, we've been very pleased with the responsiveness, attention, and care from Dr. Tatum and the vet tech, Rebeka. After I dropped her off, about 1 hr later, Rebeka called me with the vet's initial evaluation and recommendations. She was very kind and explained everything thoroughly, she also listened to my questions, noted them to relay to the vet, and she checked Lulu's prior medical records. About 3 hours later, she followed up with me to address my earlier questions, give me an update, and also to let me know when Lulu would be ready for pickup. Erin and Mercedes also helped me check-in and check-out, and Rebeka brought Lulu out and explained to me the home care routine for Lulu's lump. Overall, very happy with the team's service so far, and we even got a nice goodie bag on the way out. I would recommend this Banfield hospital! Thank you!

I hate everything about Banfield. My sweet Mika died in October of 2024 and I’m still paying for her “policy”. She didn’t have anything major happen like surgery etc. her policy should have covered her while she was ALIVE. No one should EVER have a policy for anything and then continue to have to pay N entire year after they loose a loved one. Shame on you!! Corporate greed!!Dont buy a health policy here. Ever.
