How to Save Money at VEG ER for Pets
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We went, for the first time, to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) by the mall. I can’t say enough about this place. First of all it looks like the set of “The Pitt” with so much equipment and wide open space. The only closed rooms were “surgery”, “radiology” and some place called “Narnia”. Anyway, they came to meet me at the door and helped me get in, then sat me down, took him and offered me some fresh coffee! I cried!😳😭 Then they started working on him (he has HGE which is deadly left untreated). They were so sweet and kind and had a super comfy couch where I could sit and watch everything. I cried!😳😭 They gave him some meds and an IV and put him in a nice crate. They told me I could stick around, sit on the couch, lay on a fold out bed or just leave him in their care. More crying! 😭 They kept him for the day, called me to say how he was doing and gave me so much reassurance for getting him in there in a timely manner!🥰 I hope I never have to see those people again but they sure are wonderful folks. So, so caring, kind, quiet and comforting.

It’s taken some time to gather myself enough to finally write this review. I believe it’s important to speak up and at this point, I have nothing left to lose. Back in June of this year, I brought my cat, May, to VEG Murfreesboro for what I knew was a true emergency: she had swallowed fishing line, and a lot of it. At least 5-6 feet. Anyone who has owned cats or worked in veterinary medicine knows that fishing line is one of the most dangerous foreign objects a cat can ingest. I stressed this to the staff multiple times, yet my concerns did not feel like they were taken seriously. Instead of addressing the urgency of the situation, I was charged for very costly but ultimately unnecessary procedures, and May was sent home with anti-nausea and gastrointestinal aid medication, neither of which addressed the critical risk of swallowed fishing line. Within a short time, May’s condition worsened, and she tragically passed away after having to be rushed back to an ER in Franklin, TN. I am devastated, but more than that, I am frustrated that my concerns were not acted upon when there was still a chance to intervene. An emergency hospital should prioritize listening to pet owners, especially when the risk (like fishing line ingestion) is well-documented and life-threatening. I would not want another pet owner to go through what I did. I strongly urge VEG to take cases like this more seriously, to better train staff on recognizing truly emergent situations, and to put the wellbeing of the animal first rather than defaulting to unnecessary treatments that waste precious time.

VEG is a wonderful emergency hospital to take your pet to if in need. The staff and doctors were all very caring and quick to respond to my dog’s needs. As in any emergency, it can get very expensive so I highly recommend pet insurance for anyone with pets. We were able to do everything that needed to be done without hesitation because we knew we were covered by pet insurance and would be compensated.

I could not be more pleased with VEG of Murfreesboro. I have never experienced this level of professionalism. They were quick to respond and treat my cat that was in a respiratory crisis and near death. Their treatment plan worked and she has since recovered. I was impressed with the level of care, the compassion given to my pet and myself. I was also impressed with the itemized price point quote given up front and the rapid refund of over payment. Lastly impressed with them collaborating with my vet. That saved us from unnecessary labs and X-rays. Highly suggest them for your emergency pet needs. Thanks to each of y'all for saving my sweet little Lucy. ♥️

Brought my puppy in last night for very severe dehydration and we had such a great experience, they gave amazing care for not only my puppy but also helped calm my anxiety about leaving my baby over night. The nurses and doctors were all so amazing and so helpful throughout the entire process. Even though they may be pricey it was 100% worth it for the care they give !
