How to Save Money at Happy Paws Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My animals absolutely love Dr. Parks and her team! I cannot recommend them enough! The team recently did surgery on one of my nervous pups and the whole experience was great. The receptionist always cheerful! The team explains things thoroughly and the clinic is beautiful. The technicians and Dr. Parks are always so patient during the exams and always have yummy treats on hand!

Dr. Parks and her team are absolutely wonderful! They all truly care about our animals and go beyond measures to ensure each of our 3 dogs are taken care of even after appointments. We always get a text check in post appointments the next day! They even have stayed open longer for us for an allergic reaction for one of our dogs instead of us having to take our dog to the ER. Dr. Parks and her staff were so kind that day and helped our dog feel so comfortable! I have been to other vet offices who just care about checking boxes and taking money, and I can confidently say, Dr. Parks and her staff are nothing like that! They truly care and will take the absolute best care of all your animals!

My cat is 14 years old and we’ve been to a handful of vets in his life and I can honestly say this team is the best most caring team ever. They were so sweet with us and even helped clean out his carrier since he had an accident on the way there. They are across town from me but totally worth it! They saw I was having a hard time with his diagnosis and the cost associated and they spent so much time helping me understand all my options and answer all of my many questions. They are truly better than any pet or people doctor I’ve ever been to. 10000 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When my pitbull, Nutmeg, was diagnosed with heart worms, I was completely devastated, and just shut down after they told me. I have suffered a traumatic brain injury, have epilepsy, and super bad, social anxiety. The confusion, and dissociation were palpable. They made sure I was taken care of, though; they made sure my dogs were taken care of. Everyone communicated very well. They took my phone calls when I had questions. I am not the easiest person to deal with due to memory issues, and getting confused easily. I am so grateful for this veterinarian/Dr.Parks, and everyone else that works with her! Everyone was kind, thoughtful and caring. The facilities/office is cleanly and comfortable to visit. If you guys see this, I want you to know that nutmeg says “hey “and also “thank you so much for everything that you have done for us, and how you take care of us!“

02/25 Shew my 6 yo standard poodles teeth are sspotless!! The four back molars were covered in tartar. Recently, I started feeding real food and very little kibble and his breath improved to the 70% better or so level! So I am encouraged - and now, they don’t look like they ever had a spot on them! Happy Paws once again was such a wonderful experience, thank you all for taking such good care of my sweet pup! 09/24 This has got to be the kindest, cleanest, and most reasonably priced veterinarian office that ever existed! My dog got all of his vaccines, and the doctor climbed down on the ground and sat with him on the floor to give him his shots! The vet tech also, held him in the sweetest bear hug. They also had to check a little lump of his so they poked him a bunch and he seemed to do better than normal despite! I was on the road that day and needed some food and they gave me a little baggie of Purina EN it turns out my dog so voraciously enjoyed the kibble that I switch him to that food! Great experience, great pricing, thank you so much, Dr. and the whole team! 😃 🐾
