How to Save Money at Providence Animal Hospital & Pet Resort

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We've tried a few vets in the area and are so happy to have landed with PAH. We've met with the female and male vet and both have been wonderful. They seem to get to know us on a personal level, asking about kids etc. They truly love and care for our pets. The pricing also seems to be reasonable and I don't feel I am being overcharged (all vets are expensive). We've never had to wait too long once we arrive for our appointment, and the vet rooms are always pretty clean. I appreciate that they get us in the room pretty fast, as our strong dogs get excited to see other dogs in the waiting room, which I like to avoid. We have also boarded our dogs here once for a last minute trip and felt comfortable with it although our two dogs were too big to be put in the larger suite together. We have two 80lb lab/golden retrievers. My only complaint would be it's difficult to get your pet in for same-day/next-day appointments/sick visits, but I suppose that is a normal frustration. Perhaps they could open additional spots for this scenario. Thanks PAH! Basil and Willow love you!

After trying a few vets around town, we've settled in with Providence Animal Hospital. Dr. Hollis is so gracious with his time and so knowledgeable. I walk away feeling like my concerns are heard and that I've learned something new each time we meet. They were able to accommodate an appointment with both my dog and cat, worked well with my very timid dog, and are reasonable in pricing. The facility is always clean and the staff are great. I cant say enough good things about this practice!

We are new to the area. Providence Animal Hospital and Pet Resort was our first experience with a new vet for our almost 13 year old Lhasa Poo. As many of you know it is difficult to get vet appointments or grooming appointments if you are new in town. I was so relieved to have such a wonderful experience in this establishment. They exceeded my expectations beyond belief. The place was beautiful and clean. Every single person I encountered with the staff was friendly. The vet techs and the veterinarian were patient and attentive. The cost was very reasonable (IMO) The systems they have in place are so awesome. And they have thought out every detail.…. If you are looking to change vets or new to the area, I would give them a try. You will NOT be disappointed 👍🏼🎉🎉5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dr. Hollis is a wonderful, kind veterinarian who gives thorough explanations regarding any treatment for an ill pet. They also have the ability to get immediate results for routine bloodwork, do x-rays, and have laser treatments available which I found helped my cat. It's a very nice, clean facility.

I have been going to Providence Animal Hospital and Resort since day one. Actually me and my mom were his first parents of his patients. Our picture is on the wall with Dr A in his lobby. Not interested in anyone else unless it is in that building. I refer anyone looking for a vet to him. As a matter of fact my daughter just started my Granddog Goldendoodle there. He has been with us thru all the good and bad. Couldn’t do it without him.
