How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have been taking my pets to Banfield in Mt Juliet now for almost 5 years. The techs and staff have been amazing. Because of them we were able to get an extra three years with our Kobe because they recommended us to NVS to a specialist for cancer. We have had 6 dogs go them them( Kobe made it 10, Ginger made it to 14, Buddy and Stormy made it to 21 that was amazing in it self, now we have Jazz and Taz brother and sister a little over 1) They were great during CoVID. All of our dogs do great there because of the friendly and knowledgeable staff. We appreciate all hard work.

I can never get an appointment in an emergency. My senior dog has been sick since last night, and after a long chat online, I called only to be rudely told, We’re fully booked; take him to the ER. Front desk staff should be calm and respectful, especially when pet owners are already distressed, no matter how busy they are."

Dropped off our dog in the morning for a sick visit (we were told this was the only way to get the appointment, there was nothing available where we could stay with him), I have no idea what type of physical exam was done (if any at all) he was prescribed antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory medication to take for 2 weeks, after 2 weeks absolutely no change in his condition at all so returned to a different Banfield location where we were present during the exam and he diagnosed with something completely different. Have tried to reach out multiple times to get an answer/explanation on if any physical exam was done for the first visit and 5+ calls have gone un-returned and now emails are going un-returned. It seems to me they just care about taking your money and not actually evaluating or properly treating your animal - would not recommend this location at all.

We have had the worst experience with our cat. For general medical check-ups and vaccinations, the service and medical plans are good, but not for the care of a chronic illness and even less for dealing with urgent situations with our pets. They have a high turnover of veterinarians, which does not allow for a control adjusted to the needs of our pets. My cat in her last moments, did not find care to relieve her pain and in the end for the Euthanasia procedure, despite the fact that this had been her primary doctor. During regular hours of care, they always had few veterinarians and this forced us to spend too much money on veterinary emergencies in other clinics. There was never a willingness to help or support my cat's chronic condition. I really do not recommend it if you want to treat your pet with empathy. We felt outraged begging for a little attention and not allowing our angel to suffer. Fortunately we always found a helping hand, although it was too expensive, our cat left for the rainbow with the help of empathetic professionals and we were treated with the greatest humanity possible.

The staff is nice and professional. If you do the wellness plan however, you can get stuck making payments after your pet has died. You have to pay for a full year. If your pet dies two months into a new year, you still have to pay the balance. I didn't even use the wellness service that they are billing for. They claim to save you money but stick it to you in the end to make it back up.
