How to Save Money at Veterinary Ophthalmology Services, Chattanooga

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot express how grateful I am to Dr Foster and everyone we worked with at this office. We have been through so much with our two cats Pearl and Jack, and they have helped us every step of the way. Pearl had so many issues related to a bacteria that Dr Foster had her tested for and it ended up infecting our other cats, if she had not tested her and discovered the root cause Pearl would still be relapsing. The corneal graft she did for Pearl is amazing, I'm so glad we were able to save her eye and you can barely notice the graft. The level of skill it takes to do that so well really impressed us. To all the vet techs at that office, thank you so much for your unlimited patience with us. I know I called a lot with followup questions during Pearl's relapses in the beginning and you were all so helpful and kind. You are all so amazing with animals.

Dr. Foster and her team are just amazingly, kind compassionate people. From Jenny who answered the phone, I knew this was the place to trust. Misty, our nurse, was reassuring and relieved my anxiety. Dr. Foster and all the staff talked directly to Chase. They knew he was the patient and wanted his trust first. If I called to ask a question, Dr. Foster herself called back or they got me an answer by the end of the day. Jenny helped us get our records back to California overcoming a few obstacles on the other end. They are all just exactly the caliber of human beings who belong caring for people. Dr. Foster is just smart as a whip and yet she has a compassionate, connection with animals. I cannot say enough good things. I'd never hope your dog needs this level of specialized care but they are worthy of their calling♡

We have had a good experience with Dr. Foster, we appreciated her being up front with us with a plan on what she thought was best for our Sadie girl. We ended up needing to remove both of her eyes and were so impressed with how quickly she healed. We also think she looks adorable!

My Essence was injured over a month ago by a feral cat that scratched her in the face. I was so happy that my vet referred VOS to us. They were able to save her eyes, and she is making a full recovery. Dr. Marlowe and his team were excellent. I'm so "thankful" for them all. Please, if you need help with ophthalmology for your furr baby, this is the place to call. After I posted this review within a 10 days , Essence was put down. Upon the autopsy, it showed that she had several mini strokes and would never have the quality of life that she once had. She was not able to understand command calls in which I called had her seen again by VOS. I was told.this is normal. I'm sure that she was just another dog to VOS, but to my family, she was a family member. We .it's Essence, and even though it has been almost 3 hrs, she will always be in our hearts. If you have to get any pet procedures please please please do your research, not just reviews, ask questions how will my family act after this procedures? Are there any warning signs to look out for? How long will the procedure take? Etc.
