How to Save Money at Southside Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t say enough good things about this clinic! From the moment I walked in with my foster dog, the staff treated us with such kindness, compassion, and urgency. Dr. John Lindsay and Laura Paris went above and beyond to make sure my dog was comfortable, cared for, and treated quickly. You can truly tell they love what they do and care deeply about every animal that comes through their doors. Even in a stressful situation, they explained everything clearly, answered all my questions with patience, and offered support I didn’t even know I needed. They treated us like family—not just another appointment. Thank you to the entire team for your professionalism, empathy, and outstanding care. I’ll always be grateful for how you showed up for us!

I cannot say enough good things about this practice! I just left my cat's final nail trim appointment here, as we are moving, and we will miss this place so much! I have been bringing my 6 year old cat, Beatrice, here for the past two years and have been more than pleased with their services. I have brought her in for a handful of UTI's, yearly vaccines, some GI issues, and frequent nail trims and have never left feeling dissatisfied. Dr Lindsay is PHENOMENAL and truly cares for his patients as well as their owners. He takes the time to fully explain things regarding your pet's health, treatment, and diagnoses to you before carrying out treatment. I have left Beatrice for a drop off appointment before when she had a UTI and received two personal phone calls from Dr Lindsay over the duration of her stay! Him and his staff are so kind, patient, and reassuring with any questions I have about Beatrice's health. Furthermore, all of their services are very reasonably priced, and they aren't the type that will try to upsell you. Lastly, I have had several occasions where I am barely able to make it in for Beatrice's nail trim before closing time due to my work schedule, and they are able to schedule me as the last appointment of the day to ensure that we are able to make it on time, which I greatly appreciate! I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for quality care and great customer service, and would not take my cat anywhere else in Chattanooga. Thank you Dr Lindsay and all Southside Veterinary Clinic staff for taking such good care of my girl!

We’ve been going to Southside Veterinary Clinic for the last six years. The staff has taken amazing care of the many pets in our family. I have no idea what we would do without them. They’ve been there through the good and bad. We recently had to euthanize our 14 year old dog and they made the devastating experience much easier with their love and support. Laura Paris is the biggest blessing and we love her and the entire staff dearly!!!

This is the vet we use for our cats. They have a really nice staff, knowledgeable doctors, and they are accommodating and reasonably priced. My wife and I are big animal lovers and have each worked at animal hospitals in the past when we were in college and we both think very highly of this practice.

Today we had to make one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make. With the help from all the staff, we were able to put our Bear “Bubba” down peacefully. These guys have been the absolute best with our fur babies as we have 2 other females that will still continue to be loved by them! My heart can’t help but soak that in that we have such amazing humans to guide us into the right directions for our doggos. Not only do we thank you guys, but we love you guys for having such huge hearts for mine and everyone else’s fur babies!! Bear Gnaaji & Rona wouldn’t have done it without you guys!! Long Live our Teddy Bear 🥺😘
