How to Save Money at Guignard Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Love the professionalism and their passion for animals. I recommend updating their prices online for all services. I love the care for Sir Legend as far as the Veterinarian side. However, charging $55.00 for SPA services I definitely expected his hair cut to be better or at least even for such a small puppy. Will not be using the spa services again. As far as everything else, I’m well pleased.

Guignard Animal Clinic is a great place. I've been going here for years with dogs and horses. Most recently, I had an incident occur that was tragic and fatal for my animal. They were extremely empathetic and caring while they guided me through such a tragedy - especially as I was dealing with shock in such a way that was a bit unfamiliar with me. Nevertheless, the staff here is great - they care for you and your animals. They'll definitely take care of you! Check them out! Here's a bonus! There's a feed store next door and the SPCA is a quarter of a mile away! =]

I WOULDNT RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKING THEIR PET HERE IF IT MAKES ANY NOISES!!! If you have an animal that growls or hisses, do yourself a favor & find another vet! After spending hundreds of dollars on both my cat & dog at this place I was refused any further service because “my animals were a safety risk”! My dog was fully muzzled upon arrival & never snapped or lunged at anyone only growled during blood work & my cat was secured in a carrier which only contained 4 finger sized holes which they gave her shots through & she hissed at them. At our last appointment that only my cat was present for, they recommended a prescription for ACE Tablets to be able to calm my dog enough on next visit to allow them to trim his nails & look at his skin so I purchased the prescription & got a phone call 20 mins after leaving appointment saying they’d no longer see my animals. They literally saw my dog 1 times & he growled during blood work (I was present during exam) prior to this he sat peacefully in the waiting room with multiple other patients & their cats & dogs & never made a sound. Never even gave me the chance to give my dog the medicine & bring him back.

4 average stars is way too much. 1 for this is way too much. I work as a teacher. My dad dropped my cat off for a neuter surgery this morning, told them I’d probably be in no sooner than 3:30-4, they didn’t indicate having any problem with that. I get here a little later than planned due to a hold up at the post office, but still within their business hours (5:30 PM is closing on Thursdays), and it’s completely closed. No lights, no one here, no signs posted that they’re closed early, no text or call that they would close early and need someone to come pick my cat up, nothing. An hour before they’re supposed to close. I’ve been here for 30 minutes trying to get ahold of someone, I went next door to ask the Feed Store, and I’m at wits end, and anguished at the thought of unnecessarily leaving my stressed and recovering baby there overnight. They’d better hope they at least gave him some food before they got the heck out of dodge, and I sure hope they aren’t expecting me to pay any overnight fees. This is absurd.
