How to Save Money at Companion Animal Hospital of Selinsgrove

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been a loyal customer of Companion Animal Hospital since 2003. We have only received the best care and compassion for our fur family members. Dr. Scheckter and Dr. Neveu have been our veterinary doctors and can say they are the best!! We have very happy kitties!

I can't say enough thank you to this amazing establishment. From the moment you call to the moment you leave it, they show love, kindness and compassion. The level of care for your child is above a 10. Thank you for giving me a second chance for my charlie.

If you love animals, avoid this clinic. My husband and I brought in a stray kitten, worried about its health and fleas. We were willing to pay whatever was needed, but the staff refused to even take a quick look. They just demanded a $200 deposit for an appointment the next day and offered no guidance at all. We ended up driving 50 minutes to Harrisburg, where a vet checked the kitten in 5 minutes, gave us clear instructions, and helped us save its life. That’s all we were asking for. The problem isn’t money — we were already willing to cover the expenses. But if they didn’t have time for even a quick check, they could have at least offered basic guidance and scheduled us for a detailed exam the next day. Instead, they flatly refused to help. Rude, unhelpful, and zero compassion. After reading other 1-star reviews, I see the same story: they care about money, not pets.

INCREDIBLE! I cannot say enough positive things about Companion. Our dog went on a walk and after being home started showing signs of neurological issues. Went to call our normal vet to only find out they closed permanently without any communications. Frantic I called Companion and they got him in immediately for an emergency visit. All staff members were kind, courteous and absolutely incredible. As all "kids" do our dog made us look like we were crazy and was normal when we walked in, however they took us seriously and ensured to listen and do everything to make us comfortable and let us know what to look for and be careful of this week. We will 100% be doing all his care her now and recommend them to everyone. Thank you all again for making sure our pup was ok!

The last time my cat was at the vet she was awful with them! She was just little then- but we had to bring her in to have evaluation she hasn’t been seen quite while being indoor outdoor cat she’s been healthy all her life, cat fight led to abcess so on- they were so empathetic forward my situation as I was so so upset and they were very confident in what they had to say diagnose her with I was going in there thinking we had to put her down and that wasn’t the case at all they are so friendly and they have cat waiting area which was so nice!!! So the kitty isn’t irritated by dogs! Will def be back if we have any issues they also got us in same day apt the prices were decent too they did charge 1$ for treating with love and care or something long those lines I thought that was little funny cute but otherwise It was good expierence all around for kitty’s health
