How to Save Money at Central Bucks Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Ever since we started coming here in March 2024, both my husband and I have been thoroughly impressed with the level of care that our girl Sookie has recieved. She is older now and she was having issues with arthritis , slowing down. But both Dr. Perkins & his wife Dr. Esplin have been so helpful and listened to every word I say and they always address everything that I ask. I never feel rushed I always feel welcomed. Dr. Esplin and the Vet Techs really made me feel comfortable thruout the month when I was bringing Sookie in 2x a week for 4 weeks to get Adequan injections. I was new to this treatment and of course had lots of concerns because Sookie is my furbaby and I care for her just like I did with my kids. And noone ever made me feel like I was being a pain. They were great & they all treated Sookie like their own I can't believe how lucky we are after a lifetime of dogs and Vets we finally feel at home here

I had a wonderful experience with Central Bucks Veterinary Hospital. It was easy to make an appointment that worked with my schedule and they were ready for me at my appointment times (I've had other vets where I had to wait excessively long in spite of having an appointment). They had coffee in the waiting room, which I had to take to go because everything ran like clockwork. The staff and Doctor I met couldn't be any nicer. They were extremely sweet and nice with my cats. They had snacks and treats and comfy blankets ready to use in case the cats couldn't relax. The discharge instructions I got were extremely clear and the office followed up in a timely manner to make sure everything was going well. Overall, the entire experience was great, and while I don't love having to take my critters to the vet, Central Bucks definitely makes it as painless as possible for everyone.

Finlay was such a his good boy at his appointment. Poor baby was positive for Lyme's, but we have great plans to make him all better. Now he is feeling so much better on Sympatico.

We decided to change veterinary groups, and I couldn't have made a better decision! We had our 1st visit with Dr. Perkins today. I could not be happier with the level of care and professionalism that Eddie received from everyone in the office. Dr. Perkins was extremely thorough with Eddie's exam and spent at least 15 minutes with me discussing various topics. I know Eddie enjoyed his "cheese" treats too! Thanks for making our 1st visit so pleasant. We would highly recommend Dr. Perkins and staff, thank you!

Central Bucks Veterinary Hospital truly checks all the boxes! Family owned and focused on the needs of each individual animal, I feel so at ease sending all of my pets here. Both Dr. Esplin & Dr. Perkins have such a wealth of knowledge and experience, treating every pet like the important family member they are. Every single person you meet here is incredibly welcoming and a pleasure to work with. They honestly want the best for your pet and do everything to make the visit as stress-free as possible. Even with my highly anxious dog, they took their time and went out of their way to make it the best experience for her. Very fairly priced and they explain everything thoroughly, which is so much appreciated. I cannot recommend this practice enough!!
