How to Save Money at Animal General of Cranberry Twp.

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

You won't find a more caring and competent group of veterinarians and staff than Animal General of Cranberry. After another vet suggested we put her down, they gave us five extra years with our beloved Loki. They now care for our two Goldens. I'm extraordinarily happy with these guys!

Animal General has been such a blessing to us! We moved to the area, got a puppy, and searched for the best care for our new dog. Thankfully we found the perfect fit with Animal General. They are detail-oriented, friendly, and very cost friendly as well. Dr. Stewart is awesome! We just had our puppy spayed and we are very pleased with the outstanding care. Highly recommend!

Our 16 yr old beloved dog Lulu all of a sudden took a turn for the worse over night. I called and reached out to Animal General to handle her end of life plan. They told me to bring her right in. From the time I pulled up to the door, a tech came out to my car and carried her in, the reception staff were all so kind and compassionate, Dr. Nico and Dane were so gentle with Lulu and ever so kind and patient with me,,,allowing me to sit and hold her while she went in peace. Sharon was so comforting afterward and Dane carried her body to my car so I could take her home to be buried near her other fur friends. EVERYONE there made a very hard and sad situation easier to handle. I’m forever grateful to this amazing practice and all of the staff.

The best vet I’ve been to! They are so reasonably priced and everyone I’ve spoken to there is extremely kind. There have been many times where I’ve forgotten to get a vaccine for one of my dogs and they’ve gotten me in same day! I’d recommend them to anyone in the area who is looking for a place to have their animals taken care of!

I was recommended by my vet, Justine Blout, to go to “Dr. Mike” for an injury to my dogs back leg, for stem cell therapy. I am not placing any blame, what so ever. I signed numerous papers, that I am sure outlined all the dangers. I was so desperate to help my dog, I would have done anything and paid anything at this point, which I think they knew. Immediately after, my dog was never the same. I was told she needed physical therapy, which I did for 6 weeks. She still could not use her back leg. She became isolated, did not want to be around anyone, which was not like her. With in a few months, she started losing weight. She lost 6 pounds in 3 months, she was a small dog. Long story short! My dog died of a brain tumor. Before anyone does this, please read the side effects of stem cell therapy in dogs. If I would have done my homework, I would have never done this. I had to put her down yesterday! She went totally blind over night. I feel I was totally mislead by my vet, and Animal General.
