How to Save Money at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We were so happy with Veterinary Dentistry Specialists. Dr. Herrmann and all of the staff were so friendly and accommodating. Our cat had to have all her teeth removed, and the team could not have been more helpful during the process. During her surgery, they texted us to keep us updated and informed. We’re 3 weeks post-op now, and our little gal is happier and more snuggly than ever before. We are happy with the results and happy with the care we received from the entire team.

As being a person in the veterinary industry, I was amazed at the serenity of the facility as I walked in; besides the beautiful decor, the functionality that lended itself to also being a very quiet and inviting space made this not a place I was leaving my very skittish/formal feral feline family member, but a place that catered to her needs at an advanced level, without the noise and busy atmosphere that other vet hospitals have. I believe the calmness promotion of not jamming all the clients/pets into a waiting room makes for a more seamless stay where it does lend better outcomes. Saint came home that evening after having her remaining 11 teeth removed. This was her second dental procedure in her young life; her first was was done by Dr. Hermann to save her life after being found as a stray with severe facial trauma that required extensive maxillofacial surgery by him (she is missing a large portion of her left upper and lower jaws). She ate dinner her first night home and I was able to medicate her. While many may read this and go 'oh you should be able to do that cause you own her' - the fact she was feral /did not allow human touch until late last year and I could touch her after this procedure/medicate her says that she was treated with the utmost care and respect due to her skittish nature by Dr. Hermann, Dr. Bronko, Vicki, Stacey, and the client representative staff. This is what you want in a place where you are leaving your pet - the steps that you don't recognize are cultivated to make YOU and your fur baby less anxious which equates to safer anesthesia. I will be bringing my other pets for their dental needs - even if the drive was more than 2 hours...

I cannot say enough good things about VDS! I am a primary care veterinarian, but when my super senior cat needed a dental procedure, I wanted him to be cared for at a specialty center. At VDS his procedure was overseen by a boarded veterinary dentist, a boarded veterinary anesthesiologist, and a veterinary technician specialty licensed in anesthesia. The practice is cozy and welcoming, and each patient is supervised by a dedicated team member 100% of the time. Thank you so much to Stacey, Tara, Dr. Lewis, Dr. Jarrett, and Dr. Feuer, as well as the intake and reception team, for taking such amazing care of my boy, and for helping me feel comfortable. Highly recommend!

VDS is excellent! I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Lewis for a consult. My boy Bauer has been through a lot in his life and is super nervous. During the consult Dr. Lewis took his time, and gave Bauer the chance to get used to him. He was not in a rush at all and really took the time to work with Bauer. I ended up having Dr. Herrmann do Bauers surgery only because I was able to schedule his surgery earlier. Dr. Herrmann was so kind and personable, and truly cared about Bauer. Dr. Herrmann was so gentle with him and respected his limits. The nurses were all so kind and made sure to explain in detail what to expect post-op. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to take care of my boy. I am so grateful for you all!
