How to Save Money at Deer Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First visit was unfortunately an emergency surgery visit on my 13 week old pup Bluey. Wouldn’t recommend any other vet besides Deer Creek. Great prices and absolutely an amazing staff definitely bringing all my dogs here from now on. Thank you Deer Creek for saving Bluey.

BUNNY OWNERS BEWARE!! Today our bunny went in to be neutered and came back to us hours later in an animal body bag!! They asked if we wanted them to take care of our dead bunny. You should have taken care of him alive!!! Our bunny had a check up last week here. The doctor was impressed that he was healthy and very friendly. My mother brought him back today for surgery. They called her to inform her that the surgery went well but they couldn't wake him up. They tried 3 times but he didn't respond. A healthy bunny!! We think you gave him too much anesthesia! It killed him. They are responsible for the death of our bunny. No one will admit its their fault. He was a small bunny only 7 months old. He shouldn't have gotten so much anesthesia that you couldn't wake him up. They said that sometimes this happens. Well, why didn't you inform us that other bunnies you had at your animal hospital died in your care? If you are uneducated in taking care of bunnies, you should have just told us and recommended us to someone more knowledgeable in bunny care. Or Was our beloved pet just money for you?! We will never bring another bunny to you. We will never recommend you. You should be ashamed to overdosing an animal that you couldn't wake up! Pet owners rely on a veterinarian to do their job at the highest care. My family is so upset and sad. We would have loved to brought him home to care for him but instead he was buried on our farm today. Because of your carelessness, we are heartbroken! Now our other bunny will be alone because of you all. I wish I could give a "0" star. You deserve it!

I can't thank the wonderful staff here enough for the care given to my sweet, beautiful green cheek conure who required urgent attention and wasn't able to be squeezed in at her regular vet. My sweet girl is on the mend thanks to Deer Creek Animal Hospital and I will be transferring both my birds' care to here in the future because it's well worth the extra drive time for me.

My dog has been experiencing extremely dry itchy skin for years that got worse and worse. After many trips to my regular vet nothing was helping. She kept telling me it's allergies?? After one long and thorough appointment my dog is 100% better. She explained the dry skin issues told what to feed treats and food. Staff was great and knowledgeable. I will never go elsewhere. Only complaint is give up covid protocol

I am sorry to say this, but I want to share. Everyone at the practice was very nice. But we did loose my daughters 1 year old rabbit when they put him under anesthesia for surgery to spay. I am not saying it is their fault. But I wish I would have read the previous review . I am finding out it is rare for this to happen if you know what you are doing. 😔
