How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This location is AMAZING! My pups doctor is literally the best woman that's ever walked this planet. She sits on the floor with him and plays with him during our appointments. Rocky loves going to the vet because of her. The front desk staff are so nice too! With countless issues with the Chad Dr. Location, I'm so happy to make the much longer drive to this Banfield!

Unfortunately, after 20+ years as Banfield Wellness Plan members, this company has taken a drastic downward turn. First our favorite veterinarian there, quit 6-9months prior. It seems there was a mass exodus of employees in general, as we barely recognize anyone who works there now.. Which leads to our last experience there.. At our last drop off appointment, it was honestly traumatic for our nearly 15 year old dog. Previously drop-off appointments would take maybe 4 hours. We would drop off in the morning and be called to pick-up around lunchtime. I dropped him off at 8:45am. They kept him for 9+ hours! I called for an update at 2:30pm, because I was worried, since they never kept him or any of my pets, for that long before and I hadn’t heard from them. They said he was next in line for his labs. 2 and half more hours passed with no call. Knowing they were closing soon, I just went down there (it was 5:30-6pm at this point) they had me wait in the lobby, after 15min I could hear him barking in the back, at that point I demanded they bring him out to me. That’s far too long to keep a senior dog there. Once they brought him out to me, I’ve never seen my dog more stressed out in his entire life. (He was panting/breathing/wining hard, eyes wide, trembling) It also appeared that he hadn’t been taken out to potty during that time either. So I took him outside immediately.. Once I came back in and I had to wait about 30 more mins, finally a vet (not the one that treated him) came out to talk to me, she said that they didn’t have time to do his labs that day and wanted me to drop him off again the next week. So at some point prior, they knew they didn’t have time for his labs, yet no one called me to come get him or communicated anything with me. To suggest that I drop him off again, was flooring to me. You can’t expect me to put my senior dog through that again. As a vet they are suppose to provide care for pets, to keep my dog there that long, severely stressing him out, with next to no updates for me, that is not providing care. What’s more alarming too, is another friend that I spoke with right after, said she had a nearly identical experience there, just two days prior. Lastly I want to add, it now takes around a month to get an appointment, and to expect long wait times on hold whenever you call. Banfield use to be so much better then this. I recommend seeking care for your pets elsewhere.

Where to begin… can you give a 0 stars? RUN from this vet! Alright, I’ll preface by saying that historically we have liked Banfield with the previous veterinarian, taking both our other dogs here for their life’s entirely. THINGS have changed at this location… don’t take your pets here! Since the following experience we have now pulled both our dogs from Banfield and will absolutely never go back. The experience: Our 2yo basenji blue heeler girl went in for her annual check up- nbd she’s going to the vet she’s always seen right? Wrong! We dropped Molly off at 8am sharp. Not having received a call yet by 4, my husband and I were both getting a little anxious. I finally received a call at 4:30pm from a stern woman, saying Molly was very anxious and ready and in a slightly demanding tone, asked when I’d be there, I said I was leaving work and would be there in 30mins. Now, we know our dog has anxiety, she’s a blue heeler mix so… duh. We already had some anxiety medicine ordered and ready to pick up- if they had looked at her chart. On to the next terrible moment. Knowing Molly was really anxious I rushed there only to find out that she apparently “wasn’t ready yet.” When I asked why I received a call saying she was, the young girl said she wasn’t sure. I requested to have my dog back, knowing she’d been sitting in a kennel for 9 hours… they said no because “the notes hadn’t been written on her account yet by the vet tech.” I reluctantly waited, mentioning that she’d been there for 9hrs, and growing more stressed… meanwhile listening to 5 vet techs in the back discussing what they had for lunch that day. At 6pm this young vet came out and asked a now fuming mama bear (me), if I wanted to discuss Molly’s visit and we went in the other room. The first thing I said was, “you aren’t Molly’s normal vet are you?” She said- “No, that veterinarian has left, I am the new vet who just moved here.” I asked why we weren’t informed there would be someone else seeing her as she’s always seen the same vet (that we trusted). No explanation was given. I asked how long these basic appointments usually take and she said 15-30 minutes. I expressed I was very unhappy that my anxious dog had now been there for 10 hours and asked why they kept her there so long for such a short appointment. She said there was a lot of surgeries that day and teeth cleanings. We had made this appointment two months ago, so I asked why they would schedule her on such a busy day where there was surgeries… again, no good reason was given. Getting into the thick of my pups assessment, we knew something was going on with her knee/leg and wanted that looked at as it seemed to have popped out of the socket a couple of times, going back in on her own movements though. This lady had the b*****s to tell me that when she was running her hand down her leg, she popped it out of the socket and “had a really hard time popping it back in to place.” -verbatim. Now she was talking to a red faced mama bear (meanwhile they still hadn’t given me Molly back). I said that she had literally just got back from a camping weekend playing with 5 dogs and never had a problem with the knee popping out once, after much ruckusy play. She said it just popped right out easily, I said “REALLY easily huh,” she said yes. So she just hurt my dog badly. Cool, check. She then told me that Molly absolutely needed surgery on this knee and possibly the other knee, suggesting two obscure other vets to get X-rays and a second opinion (one being in Corvallis). She then asked if we’d ever thought about trazodone for her anxiety and I expressed, yes of course we have some ordered for pickup (must not have looked at her charts it seems). After taking even longer to get paperwork in order, they finally gave her back to me… and the puddle of pee she had after going outside was the amount of 6 pees… so they must not have let her out ALL day! Molly is now scared to go to the vet but happily we just took her to the AWESOME Echo Hollow, and guess what… she does NOT need surgery. This girl should be reported. 😡

Their monthly fee pet Wellness Plans more than pay for themselves. You get 2 free yearly exams, and one annual teeth cleaning. PLUS, they are open on weekends! PLUS, the staff is very friendly. I wish I'd discovered them decades earlier. Great care, great service, great value! If I could only get this type of health care for myself. ....
