How to Save Money at Double Arrow Veterinary Clinic PC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Rafiki my cat is one of those one-person kinda cats. I’ve had him since he was 2 days old, bottle fed him back to life, etc. He loves and adores me, I love and adore him. Needless to say, when I was squishing him one night and felt a large mass in his hip, my whole world shattered. I wasn’t near my regular vet anymore,I do not like vet-hopping, and nobody here knows me or Rafiki. I chose Double Arrow based off previous reviews and bios on their website. With a ball in my throat, we headed in to see what was going on. When we got there, I was greeted by the staff and quickly seen by Dr. Dave Shaefer. He tried to poke it but couldn’t get anything.. ((que the water works)). He kept calm, and was extremely compassionate. He explained the procedure as well as what he recommends based off various results of the procedure/testing. I felt fully informed and confident in our game plan. I dropped him off the following week for the procedure. Rafiki is an extremely difficult cat to work with. He does not appreciate strangers and does not handle anesthesia well. The tech who took him to the back listened to everything I had to say about him and I KNEW she would be patient and look out for him through his grumpy antics. When I picked him up, he was hissing and screaming in his kennel- that’s how you know it was successful with him 🤣 they explained everything with next steps for testing and at home care. When I looked at the suture site, what I didn’t expect, was one of the cleanest and most well done incision site I have seen in a LONG time. The next day he was right back to his cuddly and loving self and I could not be more thankful. I cannot recommend this vet office enough!

Great service and kind, friendly staff. Live out of town but have been coming to the area in the summer for 30 years, bringing pets as well. One of our dogs had a bathroom issue start up one night while we were out here, they were able to get me in that same day and were very helpful. When we're here if we have any vet needs we will definitely be back!

My experience with Double Arrow Vet. Clinic has always been exceptional, the staff are experienced, very welcoming and show concern for my dogs. I lost a very special dog a year ago to severe seizures, Dr. Randy spent many hours night and day helping me through this and treating Jesse. I will be forever grateful for the kindness and concern this clinic and all the staff have always shown me and my pets. I recently acquired a new special puppy and they have treated her exceptionally well as they always do. The clinic is clean, well stocked and everyone is competent and helpful. I also have a senior horse and they have taken care of his needs as well. I would recommend Double Arrow to anyone who has animals in need of care.

Double Arrow Veterinary Clinic is great to work with. Every member of the staff is kind and caring. They have been providing care for all of our animals since we moved to the county. I really appreciate the way the vets explain what's going on and discuss the available options to treat whatever the issue might be. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great veterinary practice to provide care for your furry family members.
