How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First time I went this place was great but this year taking my cat in for the "comprehensive " exam, which you have to drop off your pet for a few hours to give them time to do, I was super unimpressed. They didn't collect all necessary specimens, and obviously didn't look in his mouth because I brought up the fact that his tooth is broken, and the vet tech who explained "all" of what they did looked so happy to report he had no teeth problems or breaks. His left canine is no longer pointy, how did you miss that? Terrible service. Will not return to this banfield.

I brought two of my 3 dogs here so far and everyone is very friendly! My girls had all their shots updated and they were spay here, which I am paying monthly through banfields care plan. I dropped them off before and picked them up after work. my pups were treated well and the dr was very thorough. and the best part is when I move back to NY I do not have to worry about misplacing my dogs medical records as all the banfields nationwide have the their records!

ABSOLUTELY the WORST experience I have ever had. Amy Varughese, DVM does not care about people's pets. My 13 pound 8 year old dog sat in the back of the office shivering in pain for 3 hours prior to any contact or pain medication. I personally had to go to the vet for contact and request to see the "Dr." While the other employees were laughing and having personal visits, my poor dog Sat in pain without a diagnosis or medication. ABSOLUTELY ridiculous and appalled at the service for people's pets. Imagine what they do behind closed doors!! I pay for the wellness plan, and I will not let this go until they stop charging me and allow me out of the contract because I never want my dog to go through this torture again.

This is a great vet hospital and the vet's and techs are the best. The corperate office need to come and see how these people care about the customer and there pets. I have been going to this vet with my twin boxweilers for over 12 years. We use Dr. Burnett for our girls. But have also used the other vets also there. Recently both our dogs needed extensive surgery's Dr Burnett did the surgery's. Both of our aging pets have health issues. One has kidney failure and the other has a heart murmur. This making surgery's difficult to do. Dr. Burnett knew how to handle our girls. The operations were a success. These people that work here care about your pets. The day of the surgery one of the staff from the reception area was off that day. This did not keep her from calling in to see how our girls did in their surgery's. The store is the best. They treat your pet it was their own. (They care). I recently found out you are closing this store on March 1, 2020. This is a huge mistake for your company. This store is a great example of how a vet hospital is to be run. The staff works well with each other and love their jobs. This is a model store for you to take another look at as it is a credit to your company. This could be your training store to send people there to train. This way they would learn to do things right and then be sent to.other locations to work the correct way. This would end your staffing problems at your other stores. This is the best vet hospital in the Springfield area. Springfield needs this store. It is a big mistake to close such a well run business. Please have the corperate office reconsider closing this well run business that is a credit to your company. Rick and Claudia.

Relax

Let’s make this short because I am depressed and so is my family. My dog was taken here at the Springfield Ohio banfield facility inside Petsmart and she was diagnosed with parvo Monday July 29, which was yesterday and the doctor said it’s treatable. He prescribed her with amoxicillin and said she will be fine by the weekend. She died today July 30 at 7pm. I have nothing else to say because I would have rather her been put down than rather told she was going to be ok and would be in the same condition until the medicine kicked in and watch her suffer and thinking she would eventually be ok according to the doctor rather then now be deceased. Thanks a lot for giving my family false hope because there’s nothing you can do to bring our dog back.
