How to Save Money at Kingston Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our family has been loyal clients of Kingston Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years, and during that time, they’ve provided excellent care for our animals with no complaints. Their veterinary services have always been reliable, and we’ve trusted them with our pets’ well-being. However, a recent experience has left me deeply disappointed and questioning their customer service policies. I scheduled a spay/neuter appointment for my dog, which required a $100 deposit. No terms or policies regarding the deposit were communicated to me at the time of booking. On the morning of the appointment, my dog ate cat food, so I called to reschedule. The staff was accommodating, and the appointment was moved without issue or mention of any policy. Unfortunately, due to a change in my work schedule (I work in healthcare IT), the new appointment date conflicted, and I needed to reschedule again. This time, I was informed of a “policy” that prohibited further rescheduling and stated my $100 deposit would not be refunded. This policy was never mentioned in my 20 years as a client, nor during the initial rescheduling when I called the morning of the appointment. The inconsistency is frustrating and feels unprofessional. While the loss of the $100 is upsetting, I’m more disappointed by the hospital’s unwillingness to work with loyal customers on simple scheduling conflicts. No alternative solutions or rescheduling options were offered, which feels dismissive after two decades of trust in their services. As a result, I’ve disputed the charge with my credit card provider and am now seeking a new veterinarian. I would caution others considering Kingston Veterinary Hospital. While their medical care is solid, their inflexible and inconsistent policies around scheduling and deposits prioritize their benefit over customer needs. Proceed with caution. EDIT: After posting this review, I read through the reviews here on Google, and to say I’m shocked and surprised is an understatement. Many replies and comments from the owner are truly disappointing. There are many references to suicide rates and how anyone who leaves negative or constructive feedback is the cause of veterinarian suicide. This is extremely disturbing to me, having lost a family member to suicide. It is no joke, and to use that as a talking point as opposed to addressing the issues at hand, is just wrong. I’m actually glad I’m seeking veterinarian care elsewhere, as this is deeply disturbing behavior.

we took my 5 year old dog here 2 times within a week and he was misdiagnosed with a spinal injury when he really had an intestinal blockage and was in kidney failure we ended up going to another vet and they just had to put him down because it was too late for him never bring your animals there go to Brookhill Animal Clinic if you want accurate and compassionate care. They are heartless at Kingston and one lady interrupted my mom when she asked if anything else could be done. the Brookhill vet said it definitely wasn’t a spinal injury before we even did the xray and came in on her own time after hours so we could put our dog to rest and gave us all the time we needed.

My poor kitty had trouble peeing and was developing a blockage that could have been life threatening, we called every Vet within 100 miles and NO ONE was willing to help just kept referring us to Columbus vets which were also booked. Called in and was met with an absolute angel on the other end of the phone that understood the seriousness of the situation, Told us to come in right away and were very friendly, very professional and helped my little man to feel better. I’ve read the reviews, the people that are trashing this Vet need to GTFO and get off the keyboard this is the BEST Veterinary experience I have ever had.

Such an amazing place. I bring all my animals here! They have saved 2 of my cats and my dog. And didn't take advantage of the situation like some places do. (Medvet) Highly recommend Kingston veterinary hospital!
