How to Save Money at Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It's never easy of losing a pet. About an hour & a half ago, my wife found our cat Pumpkin in our bedroom closet barely clinging to life. Before all this happened, we took her to the vet late last year to have her checked out because her breathing didnt sound right & had lost some weight. Our vet told us she had hyperthyroidism & was on medication for it. Back to our story: We rushed her to the Stark County Vet ER & one of the staff members came & opened the door & we told her what happened. They immediately rushed her back. Then coming back about a minute later saying our cat Pumpkin had passed away. She was 13. The staff there was so friendly, caring & helpful with us. They gave us an option of getting her cremated & to have her ashes put in a box. I wanted to go with that. Also, they even made a couple of paw prints & a nose print of her plus they cut off a little bit of her cat hair. After finishing up, as we were being let out by the woman who let us in, she sympathized with us & even gave us reassuring hugs. That goes to show how much her & the staff care. A most definite 5 stars on this review no doubt. And to our cat Pumpkin: Rest in peace baby girl. Mom & Dad miss you so much 😢

Thursday was the worst day of my life but the people here made it a tad bit easier. My sweet girl had pale gums and difficulty breathing. Once we arrived they told me that she was considered critical, they list of things they could possibly do along with their cost. They were understanding with us not having that much money and were able to work with us to figure something out. They noticed my sweet girl has a massive tumor that had finally become too much for her. They allowed us all the time we wanted before and after to say goodbye. The vet was so sweet. Although my baby didn’t get to come home with me I know she got the best care there was. Thank you guys so much for treating her and making her last moments not so painful.

Worst day of my life was seeing my baby girl get hit by a car. They got her right in. Remained calm, helped calm me down. Explained in detail her options. We’re patient and kind. The young man at the front desk deserves a raise because he was above and beyond helpful. My baby girl is currently still recovering from surgery and I understand I have called alot to check on her and every single time they are so wonderful and not annoyed at all!!! Thank you for saving my baby girl!! Thank you

We had to bring our baby in last night and I just wanted to give a shoutout to the red head and gentleman who were working at the front desk for their professionalism and kindness. I heard her refer to everyone’s animal as kiddo and that made me smile so much, knowing how much all of our animals truly are our kids. I must have heard her answer 50 calls in the short time I was there with emergencies and she handled it so calmly and with so much care. I know that’s her job, but I just wanted to give her a stellar review! I wish I would have gotten her name. And to the gentleman working up front, you did just the same! Both of your calming auras really help in such a stressful time. Thank you!

I wouldn’t even rate them a 1 star vet. I recently had to take my cat into the ER vet. It being 10:30 on a Sunday night we rushed my female cat here being the closest vet that could take her. When she arrived she had a temp of 104.3, with having 2 seizures before getting to the vet. Once we got there she had 2 more seizures & they suggested keeping her overnight after blood work and x-rays came back completely normal. I called 3 times during the next day with the receptionist being extremely disrespectful. They would give you a bare minimum update & be interrupted when trying to ask questions regarding my pet. I was told “we are doing all we can we, treatment is fluid & monitoring” mind you her temp is now at 106 after it originally dropped so really what are you monitoring. Finally at 1:30am on Tuesday morning, a vet finally would talk to me about treatment for my girl. Now about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon they suggest putting my sweet girl down. Unfortunately she was to far gone & it was the best decision for her. Checking over the bill the next day seeing what all was done for her, we realize a charge for $954 for a bottle of clindamycin. They overcharged $954 when it could have given me an answer why my girl is now dead. Perfectly healthy cat, good blood work, no leukemia, aids, heart worms. We do believe the seizures made her brain dead but to what caused the fever to begin with, we will never know. $954 that they would have NEVER said a word about. Who approves these charges? My fault for not checking the bill earlier but shame on them. Now my sweet girl is gone & we have absolutely no reason why. If you want to save your pet, please take them elsewhere. This place doesn’t care about your pet.
