How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My 1st experience with VEG Veterinary Emergency Group was amazement, in how professional ,compassionate and caring all the team members that I encountered during my visit. They were genuinely caring for my Boston Terrier Bruno’s well being. This is what gave me my 1st impression of this facility, as I was walking up the ramp leading to the entrance a few of the team members saw me carrying Bruno, and before I could make it to the entrance someone came out and greeted me and asked what happened to my dog, and within 2 minutes Bruno had went through triage and was having his temperature taken. The service far exceeded my expectations and I will continue to take Bruno there should I ever need their assistance. They were clear in their diagnosis, provided options for care and allowed you to make the decisions on what steps you wanted to take, rather than just insist their services like many other facilities do. Very compassionate and caring Doctors and Staff. Was not easy saying goodbye to my sweet girl Jessie I knew it was time. I picked the right place to bring her. As the tears came down I said goodbye and held her. I have to say we were treated with comfort and I was given all the time needed. I will never forget the kindness. Everyone said they were sorry. Thanking you always and forever.❤️🐶

Last week my daughter and I brought our yorkie, Ruby, to VEG after she kept vomiting, refused to eat and was lethargic. We had taken her to another vet who didn’t diagnose her correctly. At VEG they took care of her IMMEDIATELY and were able to find that she had a foreign body obstruction. We were devastated as this meant surgery. The doctor told us Ruby may need a specialized surgeon which they didn’t have there, this meant she needed to go to a specialized hospital. Knowing that it was a risk to do the surgery at VEG they refunded the costs of the treatment they had given her there so we could pay for the specialized hospital. Never in my life have I experienced such loving doctors and staff who care more about the pet than the money. Because of VEG we were able to afford Ruby’s surgery and she is alive and well today. They truly saved my dogs life and I couldn’t recommend this place enough. If you want a place that will truly care about your animals well being go here. They are so kind and compassionate truly the best animal hospital we have ever been to! I can’t remember the doctors name who treated our dog but she is the best and we owe her our dogs life.

I would give this practice a 2000/10 if I could. We came to VEG after my cat, Bean Sprout, was open-mouth breathing, and we were seen as soon as we got there. The staff was very efficient and had his vitals done in about 5 minutes while Dr. York got a history from me. Within 10 minutes of walking through the door, Dr. York had already performed and explained an ultrasound that demonstrated abnormalities on Bean Sprout's lungs. Bean Sprout is a SPICY cat at the vet (he normally gets fully sedated), but he sat very well for Dr. York and seemed less stressed than he normally is during exams. He did, however get ~spicy~ with the vet techs after his first injection, and was difficult during the x-ray and second injection, but the techs were all very professional and were able to do their jobs while keeping Bean Sprout and themselves safe. Dr. York was incredibly kind and patient and answered ALL of my questions in a very detailed manner. Additionally, we went during a busy time and I could tell that Dr. York and the techs had a lot on their plates, but they never made me feel like they were in a rush or that I was inconveniencing them. I felt very taken care of and I wish VEG offered primary care as well so we could continue to see Dr. York and his staff on a regular basis. Bean Sprout says thank you! He is feeling much better with his inhaler

Brought my dog in for a possible bowl blockage. From the moment we walked in the door the staff was amazing. Everyone from the front desk to the surgeon shared compassion and was professional. For as busy as they were, and they were very busy, they managed to make us feel like we were the only ones there. I honestly cannot say enough good things about VEG.
