How to Save Money at Day Hollow Animal Hospital PC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had followed Dr. Bocek from a previous practice and so glad I did. Everyone over there is always so warm and inviting and they treat my pets with such exceptional care and love. Will continue to use for future pet care!

Well, a month ago, my husband and I had an emergency. Our 16 and a half year-old cat couldn't keep his head up anymore. We feared the worst, and we were right. It was Chubby's time to go. Day Hollow Animal Hospital was the only place that had room in their schedule and in their hearts to take care of the whole thing. They got him in immediately. They ran all the blood work, check his vitals; Dr. Bocek and the team did everything they could, even giving us the option of having blood transfusions for our cat. But we knew better. This was an unfortunate decision we had to make. My husband was the one that took him in while I was at work. He called me with the bad news, and I left work immediately. Day Hollow Animal Hospital waited for me to get there. They took me back to their specially prepared room for Chubby's last moments. The atmosphere of the room was comforting as it could be with soft colored walls and inspirational paintings about the rainbow bridge. We got to hold him in our arms a few moments more. They left us alone to do that and told us to press the button when we were ready. When it was Chubby's time to go, my husband got to hold him in his arms as he was put to sleep and sent over that rainbow bridge. The sweetest, best possible ending for our beloved cat. The staff was considerate and comforting all throughout the process. We even chosen to have Chubby's paw print mold taken and his ashes were given to use in a beautifully carved wooden box with a certificate. The hospital even sent us a thoughtful bereavement card a couple weeks later. Even though that has been our only experience with them, I'd recommend them to anybody. If they can help you and your beloved pet handle those final moments with grace, they can do anything. And mark my words: when my husband and I get our next cat or two, we'll be bringing them here, from start to finish. It's going to be a while, but we'll be back.

I am so thankful for the care my cat received while he was struggling to breathe. When I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted by a veterinary technician who took my cat into the treatment area to assess his breathing and place him on oxygen. As an urgent care appointment, I expected to wait for my cat to be seen, but they were able to address him and make him more comfortable very quickly. Dr. Bocek and her staff are compassionate and hardworking and I trust them with my pets completely.

Took my Golden Retriever here about a month ago, it went well. Although it was extremely expensive. They were very nice and helpful at the time. Went back today to pick up a prescription and waiting in their lobby for 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged me, even though staff were walking back and forth. The lady that helped me was not very nice and was actually rude. I was able to order the exact flea medication for my dog that they gave me a month ago through Chewy. The lady said they don’t back this because they get theirs from the manufacturer. Well I was able to purchase a 3month supply from Chewy for a little over what they charged for one month of the same med. Cassidy was possibly her name? Will not be returning here, save your money and yourself some aggravation. Do not recommend. Will be returning to Athens animal hospital.

I will forever be grateful to the Day Hollow Animal Hospital for seeing my cat in two hours from the time I called for an appointment until they saw her. Her regular vet wouldn’t see her for three weeks or, as they suggested, if she couldn’t wait, I could take her to Cornell. She was observed, diagnosed, and treated with great care and kindness. She is now on the road to recovery, thank goodness, and thank you again Dr. Bosek and your wonderful staff.
