How to Save Money at Worth Street Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had an amazing experience with this veterinary office for my puppy’s cherry eye surgery. From the very beginning, the entire team was incredibly informative and reassuring both before and after the surgery. Throughout the entire process, they made sure to check up on both me and my puppy and provided all the necessary medications and clear instructions, which made everything feel much less stressful. Everyone — from the front desk staff to the vet techs, assisting staff, and the doctor — was so kind, patient, and genuinely loving toward my puppy. Dr. Francisco DiPolo is truly exceptional. You can immediately tell how knowledgeable he is and how much he genuinely cares about animals. When he first met my puppy, he even got down on the floor to examine him, which instantly built trust and showed how compassionate he is. It’s now been 3 months since the surgery with no relapse at all. My puppy looks better than ever — you would never even know he had surgery or any eye issues in the first place. I’m extremely grateful for the care we received and would highly recommend Dr. DiPolo and his entire team to anyone looking for compassionate, skilled veterinary care.

I recently took my 5-year-old dog, Panda, to Worth Vet for his first dental cleaning, and it reminded me why we’ve trusted them since he was a puppy. Patti answered all my anesthesia questions beforehand and really put me at ease. After the procedure, Dr. Green explained the results clearly and even addressed another non-dental concern I had. The vets here always take their time, explain things well, and Panda’s treatments and vaccinations have all gone smoothly so far. The staff is kind, organized, and always follows up after visits. Nick, their travel specialist, was also a huge help when we traveled to Europe. He walked me through the USDA paperwork, and now Panda has an EU passport. Worth Vet has been a dependable part of Panda’s care. I highly recommend them!

I’m a longtime client who recently returned to NYC from LA and started bringing my new dog to Worth Street. This clinic is truly the best in New York. The veterinarians are exceptionally caring, patient, and clearly experts at what they do. I tried a few other practices closer to my neighborhood, including Small Door, but the level of care did not compare. It’s absolutely worth the extra 20 minutes to bring my dog here. My 2‑year‑old, 7‑lb (slightly overweight) chihuahua, Sam, recently saw Dr. Sieger for a checkup and shots, who was wonderful, and then had his first dental with Dr. Carbonell, who was incredible. I was very nervous about him going under anesthesia and asked for a lot of accommodations—like meeting the doctor beforehand and getting updates before any decisions were made about extractions. Many vets might have found that annoying or overbearing, but Dr. Carbonell and the entire staff treated both Sam and me with such kindness and compassion, taking the time to answer questions and explain everything thoroughly. I really can’t recommend them highly enough. Thanks, Worth Street Team!

it is incredibly professional and responsible and responsive and the staff and the doctors know how to take care of your pets very well. I have a shiba that is not always friendly but he looks forward to visits and loves everyone there. He has been going there for nearly ten years. We also had an emergency stimulation which they also helped enormously too .

We have used Worth Street Vet since we adopted our dog almost 2 years ago. They are kind, compassionate and thorough. Our dog is excited to go there each time, which is honestly impressive given how frequently she has had to go in her young life as a dog with allergies. The quality of care is particularly evident when you have to take your pet to another vet for emergencies, and you can clearly notice how much better the vets at Worth Street are.
