How to Save Money at Mixlab
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

As this is my first time having to give my cat Bubba medication I had a ton of questions. Call went thru right away & I was given a great courtesy of the Associate taking the time to answer all my questions & guide me thru the process of how to dispense it. Very knowledgeable & extremely experienced. I highly recommend using MixLab for your pets needs. Thanks again. Bub's Mom MaryAnn.

I am so grateful that my veterinarian has started working with such a wonderful company! From the start of my first order, Mixlab has reached out every step of the way to make sure I knew when to expect my order and to see if I had any questions or concerns. When I had to email about an issue with my delivery (100% a UPS problem, NOT Mixlab's fault at all!), they were extremely quick with their response! I am happy to have such a wonderful company to work with to get my cat's much needed medication, and I look forward to future orders with them.

Horrible customer service, horrible company!!! They've left my cat several times in the past 6 months with no life-saving thyroid medicine for weeks on end and all I get is a form letter email stating "due to an influx of orders we weren't able to fill our order on time". No one will call you back, no apologies and they won't even then expedite shipping once they finally get around to filling an order over 3 weeks late. All this company cares about is money and creating a monopoly by buying up all the small local pet apothecaries that were great and now forcing us to deal with their complete lack of care that your pet will suffer or die before they ever get around to shipping your order. For your pet's sake, DO NOT use this company and find a new vet if they say this place is your only option to order from because it's not. We need to push back against the corporate greed that is quickly taking over veterinary care and medicine, making it too expensive to own a pet and putting their high profits and growth over our pet's lives.

At this point, the continuous struggle to get medication delivered within a reasonable timeframe is laughable. I have a pet with a serious heart condition & use this pharmacy for two out of the three medications he needs yet almost every single month there is some issue and/or delay. As other reviews have mentioned recently, wait times for medication shipping is consistently poor. Last month there was an issue with my refill & even though I placed the order & my payment was processed for the order, a week went by with no contact whatsoever before I finally reached out about it myself & they told me that the vet had upped the dosage slightly so the order I placed & paid for was technically for an old Rx....yet no one notified me about any of this. They took and processed the $75 and then left me hanging with no communication that the medication actually wasn't on the way this entire time. This month, it's now been 10days since an order was placed & paid for and I still can't even get shipping information. Be aware that even if you also live in the same city (NYC) it could still take a week (or likely more) to get your medication. If your pet has any serious health conditions, the unreliability of this pharmacy could be devastating and I advise looking elsewhere for better quality shipping timelines, costs, and customer service. Edit: I don’t accept or appreciate the scripted, empty response posted publicly by MixLab to my concerns. This doesn’t address any of the root issues, nor the ongoing and consistent nature of the issues. “Holidays” is not an appropriate excuse and us as the customer and our sick pets should not be the ones suffering the consequences of your intentional choice to use unreliable third party couriers. Holidays happen every year, shipping companies get backed up every year, this is not a surprise. Adequate steps should be taken to ensure something as vital as life supporting/saving medications isn’t left to the mercy of third party shipping couriers you don’t even have ways to contact! Purporting to be a high-quality compounding pharmacy yet not even having a system for safe, local deliveries is unacceptable. And frankly, reckless.

Horrible so aggravated we needed the medicine for our cat. We were told it was shipping on Friday we call Monday for tracking and was told it's out for delivery, Tuesday came still no meds we needed them. Same thing we were told they were out for delivery ask for the tracking. They said they would email it to us.and they did not. Well now it's Wednesday no meds, mind you we asked for a tracking number every time we called. Tonight I called I asked for the tracking Now on the phone and she went ugh this was the supervisor. Well they lied over and over the shipping label was never created until Monday at 5:45 pm never shipping until Tuesday! If you need meds for your pet think twice before using mixlabs
