How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Hospital For Veterinary Surgery

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

HVS performed 2 successful surgeries on my senior pittie. Dr. Raske is an exceptional surgeon who obviously cares deeply for his patients and their families. The entire team is passionate, professional and welcoming and we felt supported throughout the entire process. Thank you so much HVS! Highly recommend!

My experience with Breakers surgery was exceptional. The staff was very nice. Follow up was appreciated . Bradley has healed nicely since his surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. So far no complications. I appreciated the honest helpful consultation

We choose HVS to remove a tumor from my 9 year old Shiba Inu’s liver. Dr. Kyles and the wonderful team were able to successfully, completely remove her tumor! We are thrilled. I felt supported the entire way - from the consult, to planning the surgery, to the actual procedure and her overnight stay, to the recovery period when Dazzle needed some extra care. The team is available 24/7 and I never felt in the dark. They even sent photos while she was there overnight! While obviously a bit of a scary procedure as a dog mama, we knew HVS was the right choice after the consult with Dr.Kyles. We also got consults from other surgeons but did not feel as confident as we did in HVS. I would go back to them for another procedure in a heartbeat.

My primary vet recommended Dr. Kyles for my dog’s hip surgery. I thought both the staff and surgeon were kind, organized, and professional—such good communication on everyone’s part. I was given updates throughout the day on my dog’s surgery and progress (including photos!). Everyone was attentive, and I appreciated how quiet and relaxed the hospital environment was. I also went to the AMC for a second opinion (they gave the same diagnosis and price), but I chose this hospital because the environment was much more comfortable for my pet and the surgeon was more experienced.

HVS should be the gold standard for how a veterinary surgery center is run. We brought in our dog Kronk to have one of his adrenal glands removed, a very precise and scary surgery. Dr. Kyles was diligent with scans, testing, and pre-surgery medication, and answered our many questions putting us as much at ease as we could be. The entire staff was so kind and caring — sending us a few photos, calling exactly when they said they would (literally every time), and letting us know everything we needed for his recovery. From reception to scheduling to overnight vets to discharge nurses, everyone is absolutely wonderful. After Kronk’s discharge we had a non-urgent incision care question and they responded to our email in six minutes(!!!) Not long after we also had to bring in our 14-year-old Frenchie for a minor surgery, but we were nervous about it with her age and breed. Again Dr. Kyles did a great job on Moxie’s surgery as well, and the whole team took such kind care of her. Both Kronk and Moxie are doing very well and we will never be able to thank Dr. Kyles and the whole HVS team enough for their kindness, empathy, and incredible skill. While we hope our pets never need more surgery, we would go back in a heartbeat and we would recommend them to anyone. Update: we've since brought Kronk back for another (minor) surgery with Dr. Kyles, and we've had another excellent experience -- they even trimmed his dewclaws while he was sedated, which was so appreciated. These are people who genuinely care, and while I hope your pet never needs surgery, if they do we can't recommend them enough.
