How to Save Money at Heart of Chelsea Veterinary Group - Chelsea
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Apologies for the length, but how do you show appreciation for 23 years of extraordinary care without a lot of words. When you’re a pet parent, your obligations to these beloved furry members of the family are quite simple - make them very happy, treat them very well, and make sure their medical needs are very well taken care of. I became a client of Heart of Chelsea many years ago. Little did I know then that my choice of vet would ensure that my kids would be getting the very best care from the most loving and experienced people. The staff, from front desk, vet techs, doctors and the lovely people who ensure the hospital is spotless are family to me and my pets. Over the years they have all been there from the routine to emergencies and so importantly, the agonizing times of a long-term illness. Let me share an experience, that while many years ago still epitomizes the values and how the practice is still managed. One evening my cat was in extreme distress. I was terrified and in utter panic, but had the number of our long-term doctor. He answered the phone, and immediately jumped on a call with the urgent care hospital. My 🐾❤️🐾 was rushed in and received life saving care. It was long after that I heard the doctor was actually at the theater when I had called. He quickly left and ensured my baby was getting the help she needed. He never mentioned it himself; one of the front desk staff told me. Oh, talking about the front desk people, how wonderful they all are. They’re expert at triage and quickly know how to prioritize calls. There’s a full, highly qualified and caring team approach, with the superb vet techs partnering with the doctors so you never feel your pet is not receiving the best care. Thank you, and the boxes of donuts I’ve dropped off can never match what the team at HOC has done for my furry kids. Love you guys so much.

I cannot speak highly enough about Dr Leuthold. While she was not my puppy’s original vet, when he had an incident where he broke a bone in his paw she was exactly what both my puppy and I needed. She is warm, kind, helpful, patient, and thorough. She constantly checked on me and Teddy (my puppy) after sending us home from the initial incident. After almost every visit, she made it a priority to call and check in on his progress/behavior the following day. With his break, he needed to be back every three to five days and Dr Leurhhold made sure to make herself available. She made us feel so comfortable and like a number one priority. She is truly the best as is Dr Van Voorhees who originally saw my dog before the accident. I could not speak more highly of Dr Leuthold or Dr Van Voorhees - highly highly recommend either one or both :). My puppy has also seen Dr Deluty who was excellent. The level of service from these three vets and the amazing vet techs who supported their service was impeccable. It was worth every single penny and I would trust them to make any decision for my sweet Teddy. I have also seen Dr Tu. She was nice but definitely did not provide the same level of warmth or experience/service as the other doctors that we have seen.

I cannot recommend Dr. Tu highly enough. She is not only an exceptional veterinarian, but also a highly skilled behaviorist, and I feel incredibly lucky to work with her in both capacities. When I brought my recent rescue, Lumi, to see her, she took an extraordinary amount of time getting to know Lumi and me, taught me things I genuinely hadn’t learned elsewhere, and offered thoughtful, real-world recommendations that felt practical, compassionate, and effective. She is incredibly responsive, and I received a detailed report right away, which made an immediate difference in how confidently I could move forward. The trust she has built is so strong that I am now bringing my second dog, Gracie—who has been seeing a vet I adore for five years—to Dr. Tu as well. I truly can’t recommend her enough.

I am consistently and overwhelmingly pleased by the professionalism, dedication and commitment that I have experienced at Heart of Chelsea Veterinary practice. Every vet tech has been fantastic, Dr Fontana and Dr Siebert are caring, smart and concerned about the health and well being of our dog, Moby. The receptionists and administrative folks are wonderful, efficient and always on top of the administrative part of the veterinary work. I highly recommend this practice. I could not be happier with the care!

The best! We love Heart of Chelsea for their exquisite care and also the heart of their vets. Today Dr. Bassman attended and handled my finicky boy with gentleness and expertise. They also keep me organized around vaccine schedules and exams. Thank you Heart of Chelsea!&
