After nearly a month and a half, I'm in the mind state to share my opinion of BluePearl. Yes, this is an expensive hospital, but so many other hospitals are as well. In some areas, I do believe they do a fantastic job of feeling the concerns you have for your pet (the front desk staff, ICU day nurses, and the hospice team) A month ago I lost my dog Lucky who was 2 at the time, and the individual teams I mentioned above truly went above and beyond trying to make this process easier on me. The front desk treated me with so much kindness and understood my concerns, the day nurse staff truly were so careful with Lucky and made his final days less lonely, and the hospice doctor gave me all the time I needed to say goodbye. That being said, their emergency night doctors/ staff and their financial department could be doing a much better job. As unfortunate as it is, I received more calls from the financial department after I told the doctor I hand no more money to continue treatment, they spoke to me fine but made me feel like an ATM, I get it they're a for-profit animal hospital but when the hospice team said I wouldn't be charged to put my dog down after spending nearly $14,000 it was unnecessary to hide it in the bill. Their emergency night staff is an entirely separate issue, that first night I brought my dog in I already felt the vibes were off. The doctor on call was slightly rude, but I get understood she was under a lot of stress and my dog came in under life-threatening conditions, the same doctor went on to treat my dog on his 3rd day there, and she tried to convince me to give him a 4th blood transfusion even after I told her I had nothing else I could possibly give. Additional on the first night of Lucky's stay there, I went downstairs after they admitted him in and cried because I saw him in a metal cage knowing he wasn’t feeling well, this was when one of the emergency night staff employees said, "he's just in a cage, it's not that serious". I get it they're not miracle workers, but I wish they could have saved him or at least been able to tell me what Lucky was sick with. I would generally say, come here if you have to, if it's possible, get there when the morning staff does. Good luck!

Brought my dog here for surgery in February 2023 based on a referral from my primary vet. Dr. Greenburg performed the surgery which went well. I have received follow up care with Dr. Rocha, who is also great. The only downsides for me regarding this facility are the cost, the location is far from my home, and they're not great about communicating how long services take. Every employee I've encountered here has been courteous and professional.

There was one person there who I felt showed compassion and actually took the time to talk to me and answer questions - and that was in the last 60 seconds of the 2+ hours I was there. Had I not talked to her I would give 1 star. Immediately after getting there they took my dog downstairs and brought me paperwork to approve a $2,000 bill to stabilize her. Her only symptom was red and swollen eyes. I declined and said I wanted a consultation to rule out an environmental allergic reaction first. The vet called me from downstairs to talk. They gave her Benadryl and her reaction subsided. The vet came upstairs 1.5 hours later and barely spent a minute talking to me. I’ve never experienced any of this at our primary vet, and would have gone there but they were about to close when I called. My vet always talks to me about what measures need to be taken and the costs before giving her anything. I would not return, the only reason being the lack of compassion and attentiveness I saw while being there.

I can finally write a review because I’ve been too upset to even relive my experience at Blue Pearl. My 10 pound dog Gracie had cancer removed at my regular vet and they were sure they removed it all, however they suggested chemo just to be sure. Blue Pearl was the only clinic in the NYC area that administered chemo. My family thought it wasn’t a good idea to put her through chemo considering the vet said they removed the cancer, however I wanted to be certain that she was cancer free. I brought her in for her first treatment and was never even asked if she’s a nervous dog. I was never told that she could possibly die from the procedure. My friend whose dog had chemo in Boston was shocked that I was not offered or prescribed a sedative for her. I assured her that the Dr knew what he was doing. When I picked Gracie up, they said that next time they would prescribe a sedative because she was very nervous. At no time was I told to look for any serious symptoms because her moving around caused the chemo to go outside of her vessel. Four days later she began throwing up ( which is normal) and not walking on one leg . The leg became extremely swollen and she didn’t eat or drink for two days. We rushed her to a wonderful emergency vet in Hoboken and as she began to crash they called me to say goodbye at 2 am. They told us that she had all the symptoms of the chemo outside the vessel, and that she needed an antidote to the chemo which only Blue Pearl had. I had to rush her to Blue Pearl and she needed 2 antidotes and spent many days there. Every day we were told the bill would be thousands and had to sign an approval. After Gracie was given a feeding tube and more medicine the Drs told us she had reached a plateau and we should take her home with a feeding tube and a machine that fed her. We refused the feeding tube and were warned it wasn’t a good idea. We had already spent well over 10 thousand dollars( not including the price of the chemo). We brought our girl home and she could barely lift her head . After months of feeding her bone broth and chicken milkshakes she recovered fully. Yes Blue Pearl saved her life however they caused her near death! There was never an apology or offer to refund any of our money. Stay away!

I would like to thank the staff for being very understanding and kind. This place is expensive no doubt in that. But yesterday we had to say goodbye to our fur baby and we came with 14 people because she was a family dog and not once did they rush or complain about how many times we came in and out as groups. She was very important to many of us and this hospital allowed all of us to say our goodbyes. Treatment is expensive no matter where you go. But in your final moment with your loved one it truly is a blessing to be given so much understanding and accommodations. It was hard saying goodbye but the staff made it easier. Thank you
