How to Save Money at Veterinary Care Group - Middle Village

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I want to thank the entire staff. They went well beyond job duties to provide comfort and condolences to our loved Foxy. From the minute you walk in, you can see the care they have for the family members that they are attending to. Compassion is what a lot of other vets lack. They treated my loved one as a family member. One staff member even cried with us. Foxy was a special one because she overcame many of life's obstacles before her time was called. They even sent a card with entire staff signing with messages. Give this place a try. The staff will not disappoint. The doctors are amazing, and just as a side benefit, prices are acceptable. The Diaz family thanks all of you from the bottom of our hearts.

I brought my dog in here because I was looking to switch veterinarians and I am so glad I did. Dr Ueda was so great. My dog is very nervous and can be a little difficult to work with sometimes but she was patient and understanding. She was thorough with her exam and explained what she was doing each step of the way while also answering any questions I had. The prices were reasonable, the appointment was easy to book, and all the employees were friendly and kind. I’m very happy with this experience and feel comfortable with their care.

A great pleasure to meet a Doctor Who cares about our cat. He spend a lot of time with her making sure everything is fine and made great recommendations. We are looking forward to our next visit with Dr. Kiril Ivanov.

A close friend of mine recommended Veterinary Care Group Middle Village after I told her about the bad experience I encountered with the ASPCA in Manhattan where the vet was very abrasive and insensitive by stating that my dog was old and can "die" if they put her under anesthesia after I asked about dental care. The vet at ASPCA continued to say that it was not a place for supporting elderly dogs, that it was a clinic for young dogs and preventative care. However, they took my money, emailed my dog's xrays, and never called me to explain the results. This left me in tears and terrified. Though my Yorkie is 13 years old with some sensitivities, she looks like a pup and is fairly active. Since going to Veterinary Care Group Middle Village, the vets and every staff member that my wife and I have spoken to have been very professional, attentive, and caring. Most importantly, the vets try to do everything they can in the best interest of the pet first, but they also consider more financially feasible options for the parent- pet owners. I also love that the Vets call home to check on pets after our visit. Vets have also been very responsive in returning our calls and emails so they make sure to answer any questions or concerns that my spouse and I have. They don't rush us out of the room during our appointments nor off the phone. Thank you to the team at Veterinary Care Group Middle Village for your professionalism, patience and caring attitude. Parents of little Yorkie, Tara Matos.

I had been going to a different vet in my neighborhood until I found some kittens in my backyard last summer. My usual vet was not open, so I called Veterinary Care Group to find out what to do. They talked me through the whole process of taking them in while ensuring my own cat's health and safety, and even made space for me to bring the kittens in the next day to be checked out. They were so kind and helpful that I switched to them for my cat Joy, and it was the best decision. Dr. Colon has always been so kind and helpful, and when my cat passed she sent us the sweetest card. We have just taken in a new cat and are actively excited to bring her in to Dr. Colon. Thank you all for the wonderful care you've taken of our furry family members, and we are genuinely excited to have another reason to come to you.
