How to Save Money at Bond Vet - Upper West Side at 91st Street

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve had only good experiences with Bond vet for both of our dogs. They were wonderful when we had to unfortunately put down our oldest, but offered so much compassion and reassurance, walked us thru the process of what to expect, so I couldn’t imagine a better experience for such a sad event. Our other pup has terrible anxiety with vet visits, and their whole staff are always so patient and understanding with her. Always friendly and curious, from check-in to check-out. They review pricing prior to any treatments which is nice. They typically also have same day appts or walk-ins which is especially nice compared to needing an emergency vet for a sick puppy. Highly recommend!

I’m not going to lie, Bond is a bit pricey. With that being said, I continue to go there because the care they put into each visit is unmatched. I have an old senior cat who has a few health complications, but they always ensure that they handle him with care, gentleness, and compassion. I have only had positive experiences at Bond. They sit down with you and lay out every single charge, why, and what you want to edit in terms of what services they will perform BEFORE performing them, which gives clarity always. Thank you Bond for caring for my little man. He means the world to me, and I know hes always in good hands.

My husband and I took our three cats for their annual wellness exam at Bond vet on 8/5/2025. The appointment went well, and we told the vet that we were potentially interested in getting pet insurance. She gave us some recommendations and told us that they would be able to provide the insurance with our cats’ medical records with results from our wellness exam that day. So I went ahead and signed up for pet insurance. Yesterday, the pet insurance company sent emails to Bond Vet 91st Street requesting for each of my cats’ medical records. I was copied on the emails and was surprised to see Bond Vet responding that they do not have any of our pets on file in their system. I thought it was a mistake, so I logged into my account and took a screenshot of the names of my cats that were very clearly listed on my profile, as well as their discharge summary. Even with that, no apologies or corrections were made. They simply continued to reply with rude one line responses stating that my cats are not listed in their system. How do you have the audacity to deny that my cats are Bond vet patients and refuse to send our pet insurance company our cat’s medical records when I have receipts, payment invoice, discharge summaries and screenshots showing that my cats are clearly listed on my profile when I log on to my account on your website. This is ludicrous and I never want to deal with your rude staff or your overpriced and incompetence services ever again.

When my little girl, Lulu Mae—a 5-pound Yorkie—suddenly fell under the weather, I was in a panic. Thankfully, I was able to get an emergency appointment at Bond Vet Upper West Side on 91st Street. I had booked a 5:30 PM slot, but they graciously saw me even earlier, and that made all the difference in a moment of real stress. From the moment I walked in, I felt truly heard and cared for. Deja welcomed Lulu Mae like she was her own dog—gentle, loving, and incredibly thorough. She asked all the right questions and made sure I understood every step of the process. Allison and Kaylia were also warm, professional, and compassionate throughout the visit, making a tough situation so much more manageable. And Dr. DeCrccio—what a gem. Knowledgeable, kind, and patient, they worked as a team to make sure Lulu got the attention she needed and that I left feeling confident in her care plan. Yes, it’s pricey—but for the level of care, attention, and genuine compassion we received, it was absolutely worth it. Thank you all for treating Lulu Mae like family. You have a loyal client for life.

I appreciate being able to make a same day appointment for my pup. The individual working at reception could not have been friendlier both in person and on the phone. She welcomed us with a smile and was patient with us when checking out. I observed this type of care as she greeted others. The vet and vet nurse were kind and answered all my questions. I understand that vet care is expensive and often reviews factor that in; however, I was happy to see the costs of recommendations before agreeing. It can be shocking to say the least. I did not feel pressured into running extra tests and was given time to make a decision.
