How to Save Money at Bond Vet - Upper East Side at 86th Street
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I'm not even sure where to start to be honest. We've brought our dog here a handful of times now over the last year or so and oh man.. absolute coin toss. I get it, as a healthcare worker myself, people make mistakes. But at this Bond Vet, it's like no one really cares when those mistakes happen. It's all dismissed very quickly leaving us to clean up the mess. Once, they accidentally gave our dog a 2x dose of her medication, didn't realize till hours later, and gave us no medical advice other than, "just keep an eye on her". Another time they had us fast our dog overnight and bring her in at 10am for an ultrasound while they knew the tech wouldn't arrive until 2pm. Then it was radio silence until we called at almost 6pm... At which point they somehow still weren't done with the appointment. While picking her up, one tech explained that "our clippers aren't the best", completely excusing herself of the "razer burn" that was really just cuts all over her belly. Again, no one seemed to care. Please just do better. I get that medical burnout is a thing.. but as one of the only vet clinics with open appointments in the area, you're basically holding us hostage.

I brought my 13 year old Yorkie in with a (didn’t know it at the time) life-threatening issue. My usual vet is at home so I went here out of a recommendation of a friend. Before I went, I was recommended to either come ASAP or to the animal hospital given her symptoms, but I wasn’t aware of how serious the symptoms were until I got there. What followed was a tumultuous 9 hours for any pet parent, where we were faced with losing our little Yorkie multiple times. Dr. Stankus examined her and she was incredibly direct, knowledge and informative. She helped us understand what we could based on the diagnosis at-hand and recommended we go to AMC to get further diagnostics and treatment done for our dog. While we waited for our ride to the animal hospital, our dog’s condition worsened and they were our saving grace in keeping her stable enough to get 15 mins to the animal hospital. Alexis, the receptionist, helped calm and comfort us in one of the worst experiences of my pet parent life. She helped direct the Uber driver directly in front of the office so we could bring our dog from oxygen into the car as quickly as possible. I can’t thank this clinic enough for all of the support, care, and consideration they put into our short, sudden and woeful time here. It’s astonishing to me how much dedication and care they gave especially when we were not a historic patient. Dr. Stankus followed up with me the next day to see how she was doing, which really shows how much she and the clinic cared about my dog’s well-being. It meant so much. Unfortunately my dog will not be around for much longer, but if she was going to be I’d easily switch to this clinic. I cannot recommend them enough. I wish there was something more that I could do than write this review for them; they saved my dog’s life (in more ways than one) and gave me however long I have left with her. Thank you so much!

Bond Vet 86th Street’s dental team was amazing…they saved my cat Tintin’s teeth, kept us calm through updates, and sent him home a hero. Highly recommend! We brought our cat Tintin in for a dental cleaning after a referral from Dr. Bryan Anderson at Bond Vet 112th. We were so nervous about him being under sedation, but the staff made the whole process much easier. Midday, we got a funny, reassuring text from the vet tech with an update that instantly put us at ease. After surgery, Dr.Luke Bartels called to explain everything clearly and gave us the best news…no teeth had to be pulled because we acted early! When we picked Tintin up, the staff was warm and thoughtful, sending us home with a bravery certificate, toothpaste samples, and helpful advice. We are so grateful to the dental team at 86th Street, they truly went above and beyond for Tintin.

I’ve been going to Bond for almost five years and they’re the best vets that I’ve ever had. I can’t say enough good things about Bond. The staff is incredibly kind, patient, and always takes the time to explain every detail. They make stressful situations so much easier with their calming presence and clear communication. It’s obvious that everyone here truly loves animals and is committed to giving them the best possible care. I wouldn’t trust my shihtzu Little Guy, 13, and Buddy, 7, with anyone else. Thank you for everything you do!

Since my last visit, the vet recommended a dental procedure for my senior dog and instructed me to call to schedule the appointment after the blood work. We have been calling every day for over a week, and the staff has been extremely unprofessional. They place us on hold without notice, we wait up to 20 minutes only for the call to be disconnected, and then the phone just rings with no answer. Because of this, we have been unable to schedule the appointment, and the clinic is far from us, so going in person just to make an appointment is very inconvenient. At this point
