How to Save Money at Heart Of Gold Veterinary Care PLLC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’m not from New York State so this isn’t our regular vet office, but I kind of wish it was haha! My dog who usually needs to be muzzled and held by 5 vet techs at our regular place laid on her side and got belly rubs from the staff here. She wasn’t stressed or afraid at all. The vet was super nice and so were the techs, and it was a very affordable visit! I’m really happy with the quality of the our visit and would definitely make this our permanent care facility if we lived in New York! Thank you guys so much for giving my girl a good experience ❤️

I recently started having Jess and her staff help me with my kitties. It's very nice there. I love seeing her horses. Every business has to start some where. And they're doing a great job. I don't mind waiting in my car at all with all the sickness' going around. Sometimes I have to wait a little bit but I understand she takes care of a lot of animals and emergencies come up. They've helped me a ton with my kitties issues. Very thorough. The prices are ok with every thing that's been going up every where. Her staff are very nice too. I'm thankful for her veterinary care. Keep doing a great job ladies 😊

Very kind and professional they care about you and your pet no matter the situation. Take it from me. If your fur baby needs love and care, you'll get it here. I can't say enough good about this vet.

Lack of compassion. High prices for minimal care. Ran out of a garage. (How is that a sterile environment?!) I was charged $12 for a cardboard box, and an astronomically high price for her to listen to my cat with a stethoscope. To tell me he has a heart murmur. Which she couldn’t even diagnose in my moms dog. Never once have I left a negative review, but this is needed. And don’t dare try to ask for copies of your animals records (if you can call one sheet of paper for multiple visits a record) because they’ll put you through the wringer for that.

Extremely poor communication , extremely bad time management and lack of manners. I showed up for my first appointment on time. I had wait in the parking lot and call them to check in. There is still working under covered rules which in my opinion is ridiculous. They made me wait in the parking lot for an hour and a half while other people who checked in after me were serviced despite me having a scheduled appointment. As a result I lost time and money from having to leave work early which did not need to occur considering they were running an hour and a half behind schedule. I went in for my second appointment and went through a similar experience. They continuously wanted to schedule me for shots after shots while not dealing with the issue in which I brought my dog in for the first place. They were rude on the phone they were rude in person and overall an absolutely horrible experience. I highly recommend taking your pet somewhere else.
