How to Save Money at Boght Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat needed attention for a non life threatening issue, and they got her in the same day that I called. The staff were respectful and handled my cat really well. We were in and out quickly and the cost was very fair, especially when you know what emergency vets cost. My cat was almost instantly happier once she was treated. Thank you for helping her!

Several years back they were very helpful for our dog but my goodness have they taken a nosedive. Getting through to them is almost impossible. They said they only have two lines and if two people are on calls it will just say “line busy”. It’s 2023… how do you not have call waiting when you have hundreds of clients? The inside is very outdated and dingy looking. My cat went in recently for a massive tumor on her leg that appeared nearly out of nowhere. We saw the vet, said it was most likely cancer but if I wanted to do a fine needle aspirate I can. We did that, test came backI showing no signs of cancer (although it likely still is). I had to call for the results as I had not been called with them. When my cats tumor continued to grow in size, I persistently tried calling to get ahold of the vet to see what I could do to keep her comfortable. Either the vet wasn’t available or the lines were tied up. I kid you not, I called for DAYS without the ability to talk to someone. When I did get ahold of them, I asked the receptionist if I could have the vet call me back because I haven’t been able to get a hold of anyone and they said that my best bet would be to continue to call in until I can get ahold of someone as the vets don’t do call backs because they’re too busy. Are you kidding? I work full time. I don’t have the ability to call in every day multiple times in hopes that I’ll finally be able to talk to the vet while my cats tumor is growing more and more painful by the day. I ended up taking my cat to Cornerstone and had SO much better of an experience. That’s where we will continue our care for all our animals moving forward.

They are very good at making sure your pet is taken care of. We have 2 dogs and they are always brought to the clinic for any issues or vaccinations. Over the almost 9 years that we have been going to these clinic and we have had good experience with them. We will continue doing business with them. Thank you.

We came in for an exam with a 6 week old 1.5lb kitten that was abandoned and we took in. She was very scared and overwhelmed and despite the vet seeing that she was scared, decided to scruff her and she hissed and tried to run away. The vet refused to complete any more of an exam on her stating it was not to scare her anymore but then still charged me a full visit fee despite being seen and not actually examined for less than 5 minutes. I called the office the next day and spoke to an office manager who told me they probably would not give a refund despite no exam being completed. I asked for the owner to call me back and they have refused to do so. Would not recommend this place.
