How to Save Money at Bronx Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had a difficult situation with my dog. The Vet Tech and the doctor provided exceptional care and support during this challenging time. The Vet Tech went above and beyond by accommodating my 1-year-old nephew and ensuring a comfortable environment for him and my dog. The doctor conducted a thorough examination and blood test, which revealed that my dog's kidney was failing. They presented me with two options: keeping my dog in the hospital for three days or putting him to sleep. They showed sympathy and understanding towards my needs, allowing me to make the decision that felt right for my dog. The Vet Tech paid attention to details, providing comfort for my dog and offering me the option to stay or leave during the process. Additionally, they thoughtfully provided me with a box containing my dog's paw print. It's evident that the staff genuinely cares about animals and goes above and beyond to provide compassionate care.

It’s was wonderful. As a teenager, doctors usually don’t want to take you seriously but the doctor was soo nice and informative. The assistant or nurse, he was also very nice when handling and keeping my dog calm. They was also very kind when answering all my questions. Including the front desk they was very kind. Even though the wait was long it was worth it. He went for an inflamed paw, they gave him medicine and a cone. No licking!( he looks so cute)

During my most down and trying time with my Leylo of 16 years, The BVC took care of everything!!! They made the bitter scenario sweet. They cleaned him and wrapped him and put him in a basket with flowers coming out of it. They made him comfortable and they gave us all the time together in the world. I'm really thankful he got such comfort before passing.

I am very pleased and happy that my fur baby Max is getting the help and care that he needs. I am extremely pleased in how quickly that took Max in to see the vet. I was sad to leave him there but I know that he is in a great place to get and feel better soon. They are going do everything in their God giving power to get him well so he can come back home healthy and happy. Max mommy loves you and I will see you tomorrow. Sweet dreams my handsome son. Thank you to everyone that is not only looking after my fur baby but all the fur babies. Great place nice and clean and great staff.

My first time going to this vet was unfortunately to put my baby girl Cruella down. It was extremely difficult for me. After 16 years of a beautiful life together she got sick. Heart failure. When I went in I was torn about this decision. I wanted a way out of it. Surgery medications anything whilst being fair to her. The Vet reassured me I was making the right decision. He told me she lived a full life and I should be proud of that. He approved her being euthanized because she was too sick to handle sedation. They made me feel better about this decision. They consulted me the whole way. She caught a reaction to being sedated before she could be euthanized she passed away. Which confirmed what the vet had told me. They were so nice. Asked if I wanted hair cut off to save. They gave me her paw prints in sand as well as her hair in a small valve. Paw prints and nose prints on a beautiful card and the case they put her ashes in is beautiful. I’m grateful for them. They really helped this awful experience. Made it beautiful. I couldn’t be more grateful 🙏🏼 thank you 😊
