How to Save Money at Armory Dog & Cat Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This experience was awful. They're money hungry and belittle you. They take your pet, dont allow you to go inside until they are ready to speak with you. They found my cat had cancer and it was my first time ever dealing with a sick pet. The doctor told me I had to go to a clinic in NJ (to a "friend" of his that breaks bread when he refers patients) knowing I don't drive and live in the BX. He Said no where else could do the procedure and that it was going to be an expensive surgery to remove the tumor . Approx. $5k. After telling me it was cancer they rushed me over to pay and told me to leave. I was boogers and snots while having to pay, questions went unanswered after paying them $100 to look at my cat. I went to a local clinic and got it done same day service for around $2k. I wouldn't recommend my worst enemy to this vet. If i can give it 0 stars I would. These are very sensitive procedures and for you to suggest what's in your best interests is foul.

Armory dog and cat hospital bronx location has a wonderful staff who help answer any questions or concerns I might have in regards to my pets health or nutrition. The veterinarian doctors are also very polite, patient and professional. My pets usually get seen quickly and wait time if any aren't very long.

I was recommended this place by a coworker for their more affordable pricing. My chihuahua has a growth which I needed checked out because he was having trouble walking .we saw Dr.papak , which was the worst dr I have ever met in my 41 years of life. She immediately began stating all the test I needed to get for him without even telling what it might be or why I should have them done. She didn’t ask to see him walk I told her his foot he keeps biting on she said that’s not to worry bout no dressing no ointment she didn’t even look at it, not even a verbal tips on how to help that but only tells me that’s not what we have to worry about. But now both his feet have swollen up and he can’t walk. We agree on an X-ray 435.00 n she then tells me now he needs an ultrasound once again not even explaining what she read in the X-ray findings. She was so careless she didn’t even ask what type of dog he was his report states he’s a miniature pinscher. When he’s a pure breed chihuahua. I left there with 275 less (bc practice manager omitted whatever extra she added on the bill)with the same info I found on google. My dog has gotten worst since the visit. She was terrible and all about selling she’s in the wrong business she took an oath for this title and she should be ashamed. And she’s unprofessional smells like cigarettes left the office twice while I was there to go for a smoke. She’s a poor example of a vet. To call her a doctor is a disrespect to actual doctors. Again staff was way more helpful n caring then she was. Do not book an appt there with Dr.Papak. I will make sure to leave a review for her everywhere she’s at. Update: my dog passed 4 days after her visit.

1 star is as low as I could go in order to place my review here. 1 STAR IS BEING GENEROUS. Place already smelled like death. They threw my dog’s ashes away after assuring us that we would need not worry and could take as long as we needed to in order to collect the ashes. According to them, they sent the card to the wrong address so we never got ANY SORT of notice when they decided to throw my dog away. I was too young to know better but if I could go back 5 years I would have taken legal action. Charged an arm and a leg to have her body taken and cremation to be done. They took my dogs remains, and she wound up a Jane Doe at the end of it. I will be happy the day I hear this place goes under, makes me angry every time I walk past. Careless thieves.
