How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

No one wants to work here. Come here if you literally want to waste your time. I came in 20 minutes early for an appointment just to be told that the vet is on his lunch break and to come back later. I didn’t remember to bring my vaccination records but I could go and get it and I would make it back for my appointment but I would be 10 minutes late. I was told that the Dr. Nardi won’t see me if I was more than 5 minutes late and I offered to email the paperwork so that it would make it in time for the scheduled appontment. However, the receptionist told me that I don’t need my cat’s phone vaccination records because we wouldn’t need a vaccine today. I’m waiting for the appointment and the vet is 20 minutes late to our appointment and then the nurse or vet tech or whatever she was tells me that the vet won’t see my cat unless I have proof of my rabies vaccine (which i don’t have but could’ve gotten) and says to go elsewhere even though my cat is sick/having an emergency. I said I could go back and get it and she said that the vet won’t see my cat because there’s an another appointment in 15 minutes and to reschedule. I literally just wasted my time and could’ve just gone elsewhere to get better care. Every other vet besides Banfield has always been so helpful, caring, and accommodating. I’ve never been to a veterinary hospital this disorganized and unhelpful and had a vet so unwilling to help.

I haven't had enough experience with the hospital and my pet to make a review. But I have spoke with Arlene a representative from billing and my experience was excellent. She was very professional and patient. The customer service I've received in knowing has been excellent.

Tried to refill a prescription via the phone and the mailbox is full. I called back to speak to someone and was on hold for 20 minutes until I got tired of holding and hung up. Do yall need employees because I know a few people that need a job and are willing to work

To say that I am frustrated is an understatement. I scheduled an appointment for my cat a few weeks ago. I received a call after scheduling that I need to reschedule because the doctor was not going to be in that day. So I listened and rescheduled the appointment. Received another call to let me know that the day I chose was not going to work anymore so I rescheduled to today. My cat is not easy to put into her pet bag but was able to do so, even after receiving a little scratch. We get to this Banfield and was told the doctor could not see her today because he’s busy all day. The fact that I did not receive a phone call, text or email and I am being told this at the appointment she was supposed to have is unacceptable. It is also not a great look on their part to have a system where you actually schedule an appointment and you show up to only be told that they are busy that day. I did my part in rescheduling a couple different times and it’s quite unfortunate that they cannot do their part in keeping their appointments. This is absolutely ridiculous and only pushes me further into looking for another veterinarian for both my cat and dog.

Experienced a long wait for my drop off service. Never spoke with a veterinarian even though I was told that my puppy may have had an ear infection. No follow up on that call! I hope next visit is better.
