How to Save Money at Marmalade & Mobile Vet

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Forsyth and her team are wonderful! They are so kind, compassionate, professional, and thorough. She is extremely knowledgeable and knows her stuff. Dr. Forsyth is upfront with pricing for services, which are reasonable, and doesn’t push any services if not necessary. The price is actually cheaper than Banfield (PetSmart) and they come to the house! No stress! Dr. Forsyth has done everything we have needed, and the bloodwork results are extremely fast. Her staff is professional and responsive. Our pets (Boo, Marigold, and Finkel) are in very, very good (and gentle) hands. I’d give Marmalade ten stars.

I had a difficult situation with a large 60 lb. dog, who was not leash trained and had a medical condition that deteriorated quickly after a bad seizure. Marmalade & Mobile came to our house within days of initial contact. They were compassionate and understanding, and gave us the opportunity to say goodbye in our own home. I cannot recommend them enough. Putting down our dog was so difficult, and they made the process as simple and smooth as possible.

Very pleased with Dr. Forsythe. Very responsive (even getting back to me at 10pm one evening when I sent an email and she happened to be doing something else when she read it). We have recommended her twice just this week to neighbors wanting a mobile vet.

Dr. Forsyth and her team are beyond wonderful. I recently had to let my 12-year-old Pomeranian go. She had several health issues and it got to the point where she needed to have her final rest. I honestly cannot say enough about how compassionate, caring, and dedicated the staff was. The pure love and care these wonderful people showed my baby in her final moments. Even afterward, how gentle they were with her and me. I will forever be grateful for it. I also plan on having Dr. Forsyth handle my surviving rescue's care.

This is the most poorly-run, uncaring, and incompetent Vet's offices, that I have encountered in Southern, NJ. The ignorance of the Vet herself, is exacerbated by the atritude of the receptionist, who offers nothing but lies and empty lipservice, to humor the owners of the poor pets, who only resort to using this office in desperation, and to cover for the Vet, who couldn't care less about actually treating sick animals. Even IF the vet had managed to arrive at the correct house, she never actually came to the door. Having a dog that barks at everything that passes by, I believe she went to the wrong house. If that wasn't bad enough, I didn't have my phone with me, II missed a text and she left! I received no instructions, prior to the appointment that I should expect a text message and that if I didn't respond, the Vet would leave. It's ludicrous to think that nobody would bother to knock on the door, knowing that I was expecting her to see my sick pet, for 2 days! NOT TO MENTION, according to the text, she was 20mins early. Given that, she would have arrived at her next appointment early, and finished ALL of her appointments early enough to respond to my MULTIPLE phone calls, texts, and pleas for her to see my cat, particularly, knowing that this was an urgent matter. I DROVE TO THE OFFICE AND SPOKE TO THE RECEPTIONIST IN PERSON, WHO CONTI UED TO LIE TO ME! I NEVER EVEN RECEIVED A CALL BACK, PRIOR TO CLOSING TIME! I AM ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED AND DISGUSTED BY THE IGNORANCE, COMPLETE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM AND TOTAL LACK OF COMPASSION AND DECENCY, NOT TO MENTION, the ABSENCE OF COMMON SENSE. If someone is expected at my home, I assume that she will be smart enough to alert me to her presence, unless she informs otherwise, BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT. I also assume that the purpose of scheduling an appointment is, so that it will occur at the designated time. Now, somehow, I have to figure out how to get a skittish cat, that I cannot get into a carrier, to a REAL Vet's office.
