How to Save Money at Newark Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Yablon KILLED my cat, I called to make an appointment for my male cat to get neutered and he told me to bring in him on the same day and unfortunately I did and my cat die because he never told me my cat was supposed to be fasting 12 hours prior. I didn’t know better, after all he was the “doctor” , he said my cat had heart problem and remarked “eventually he was going to die anyways”. He is a bad doctor, he doesn’t like animals, I feel he only cares about the money. Please don’t go to this place, read all the reviews he killed others animals before :( I miss my cat so much. He broke my heart 💔

I want to thank you vet for all your service and specially for yesterday that you were about to close but you still helped me and vaccinate my pet Foxy. I'm been going there for a couple years with my pets Lola and Foxy for other reasons and you were very professional and kind. I want to share my experience with this location, 2 weeks ago I called and ask about vaccinating price, because I thought that's all I needed at that time, so I went there and the vet check my pet and he find out that foxy had fever, and the spot that he had on his back witch I was thinkin it was just a rash the vet told me it was actually an infection and he has it on his ears as well. The vet told me that he can not vaccine foxy while he was sick and fever I was mad BUT I stop and think that the vet was been professional, and i decided get the treatment and medication for my pet, and now 2 weeks later foxy is vaccinated and has no more infections. We all have to stop and think and listen to the doctors and follow their instructions, they know more than what we think, that's why they study for and have a Diploma. Excellent veterinary, just call before go there no appointment needed, thank you.

I just took my cat here about three days ago because I am preparing for international travel. The microchip and rabies Vac were okay; though, the tall male vet with glasses was kinda rude and interrupted me every single time I spoke, even when answering a question lol... but that’s Jersey.. regardless, Be completely sure of what you need before you ask, because the lady at the front, albeit very polite and kind, convinced me I needed a $45 certificate for my cat to fly interstate to Texas... turns out she absolutely DIDN’T need it and the airport rep was like “nah girl, you don’t need that to fly with your cat between states.” After finding this out, I called the NVH twice and was told “we’ll call you back to discuss your claim”... which hasn’t happened. I know $45 isn’t a ton of money, but I am struggling hard financially and that money could be used for cat food, litter, etc.. So just be aware of what you NEED before you ask, and don’t let homeboy walk all over you in a consultation. Cause like, they charge for the consultation...he was rude and dismissive and not helpful so much as abrasive. However annoyed I was- Thankful that they’re open and seeing patience at short notice; kudos! A lot of vets aren’t accepting appointments or walk ins, so I give 3 stars for that. Would gladly change it to a 4 or 5 if I get refunded my 45 😬

I always take my feline daughters to the place, they are super attentive, helpful and punctual. I highly recommend the place, all the vaccinations of my cats and surgeries were there and I never had any problems.

Somehow my review was deleted. His severe negligence killed our dog. He was perfectly healthly and we were going to travel so we went for a regular checkup at Yablon’s vet clinic. He notified us that our dog might have a hernia and needed xrays done to confirm so we agreed and left him to get xrays. When he called us to pick him up he handed us our dog drenched in blood from his behind. He gave us zero explanation as to why he was bleeding and told us he would wake up from the anesthesia soon. We took him home and noticed he was not responding. We went back to his clinic and he said to not worry, he will wake up it is just a side effect. We went back home but we started to notice he was responding less and getting cold so we called Yablon crying that our dog was unresponsive. He told us there’s nothing he can do and hung up. We quickly got in the car and drove to lyndhurst animal hospital, they treated us very nicely and tried to revive our dog but it was too late he was dead. In the process of reviving him the Lyndhurst hospital called Yablon to ask what procedure he had done and what medication he had given our dog and he refused to let them know any information. He will KILL your pets! UPDATING with my proof of being at this vet since the lovely liars who work here love to deny it. Also pretty confident information on this was forged (hence my beloved dog was NOT 14 years old. )
