How to Save Money at People for Animals Inc

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

When getting to this facility, I was quickly and nicely approached by a front desk rep or a tech to fill out papers and pay for my kitten services upfront (neuter, chip, first round of shots $190). I made them aware that my cat is an easily frightened kitten. I also made the tech aware that I would be running late to pick him up, and they stated that would be fine. I admit I was an hour late and got there at 5 pm due to my reasons for being at work. However, I did check on my cat at noon, and then called again to state I would be late once again. When I arrived, the techs had my kitten sitting in his crate with the cone attached to the side of the crate out in the lobby, where no one else was. I found this very odd, but didn't think too much of it. However, when I got back into my car, I opened the crate to see that my cat was covered in blood, and so was his crate. They did not bother to check on him within the hour that he was waiting for me, but they did bother to charge me $25 for being late (which they compensated for not being vigilant of my cat for an hour). I knew I had to pay the late fee before getting there, and I was okay with that. I was just grateful they were able to wait for me to pick him up. However, that whole hour of him sitting there, they only stated they walked by his crate, stating they could see into the crate and see that he was fine. But never choose to make sure he was not excessively bleeding at any point, or truly fine, I should say. I was so scared, as I have 3 other cats and this has never occurred before. This whole experience was one I wish no one ever has to go through with their fur babies, and to top it off when speaking with the manager, she tried to hear me out, and her higher-up boss was aware of everything that occurred, and no further compensation for my emergency visit to Red Bank Emergency Care was even offered. To me within that hour of my animal sitting in a lobby and not fully being checked on, knowing you can barely see through the soft crate I have for him was just so upsetting, and showed me there was no care for that animal. As stated by management, it was the end of the day, and the employees were just ready to be relieved from work. Showing me that there was no care for my cat, being the only cat left, because they just wanted to be done with their day. But what also made this experience harder is knowing that nothing is cheap anymore, and after spending a total of $205 with them, I spent another $225 for emergency care, and nothing was offered in compensation but $25. Not some of my emergency costs, nor any further offered assessment of my kitten. My kitten should have been treated with more care, and not like he was just another money bag. Not to mention, they are now receiving more patients since the SPCA doesn't offer affordable care services for neuter and spays, so I get they are getting busier, but my kitten was the only kitten left in that facility after 4 pm, so why couldn't he be properly checked on? I truly suggest just not being late at all to this facility, this way you have the time to be able to run back to them if something is occurring with you pet because as stated by management they don't further access the cats after their procedure and they are packed up and waiting for their owner. Overall, I will not be going back to this facility.

We scheduled our 17 year old Pom for euthanasia. We arrived 15 minutes early, and were immediately taken to a private waiting room. Our vet, Sarah, was wonderful. She has a very gentle, calm demeanor that really helped us through this process. And because the prices are so reasonable in comparison to traditional clinics, we could afford to have Tessa's cremains return to us. Thank you to everyone who makes this place possible.

Best ever I have 6 dogs and I have take them all there. People are friendly. Yes the waiting outside is a little long but is it's worth it. Be there early. The earlier you get the faster you will come out. Same when you pick up your puppy or dog. They give you medication for your pet too.

I brought a litter of neighborhood kittens here a year ago for their spay/neuter, shots, microchips, and ear clips. They were treated professionally and with great kindness. This clinic is a life saver for these strays as well as family pets! I kept two of the kittens and brought them in for their three year Rabies this past week. One cat was well behaved. The other cat was a challenge to handle, but they both got their shots! I truly appreciate People for Animals. It's a caring organization that performs a great service for cats and dogs! Come here to spay/neuter your pets and to keep their shots up to date! Prices for services are clearly stated. Very reasonable! They helped and are still helping my cats!

Please if you love you Pet do not bring them here, save the extra money and go to a Vet that is not looking to get your pet out in a mass exit from the place. In 06/25/25 I took my 1year old English Bulldog to People for Pets Manville location to get fixed and to have Entropion surgery. After I dropped Lucia off I received a phone call from the doctor stating the Lucia is at high risk because she was so overweight ( which she was) How I wish I turned the car around, but I was also told that she should be find. At 11am I called to check on Lucia and was told that everything went great and she is doing well and I can pick her up at 2pm I get to the office at 2pm and the one of the vet techs is giving a aftercare instructions to everyone who brought in a pet no case by case instructions, Lucia was the last pet to be brought out and she was out of it could stand up, I asked why is she still seemed drugged up? I was told it could take up to 24 hours for the anesthesia to ware off so I accepted that answer plus I knew Lucia had a tendency to be lazy So I get Lucia home after an 1 1/2 hour car ride and she is still out of it but again I’m thinking it’s the anesthesia after about 2 hours Lucia’s breathing became very bad she was making gurgling sounds so I looked it up and it said can be normal but keep a close eye after about 30 it got worse and puss started to come out of her nose I called a 24 hour emergency vet hospital and I was told bring her right away as I picked her up Lucia pissed herself and took her last breath never made it to the hospital People for pets did tell me she was a high risk no doubt about that my issue is when she was not coming out of the anesthesia like the other dogs were I should of been told to bring her to a hospital where she can be watch people for pets seems like here’s your pet she is fine now go home. That’s why you get charged 25 dollars if you’re late to pick up your pet. Again I was told she is at a high risk but I was also told the surgery was fine she did great please be here by 2pm to pick her up So please if at all possible save the extra money and take your pet to a vet that provides the right aftercare.
