How to Save Money at Animal Clinic & Hospital of Jersey City
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thanks to this amazing clinic, my cat is now healthy and happy! In early January, I took my cat for a check-up because she had two loose teeth that looked bad. The vet examined her and recommended extractions. Initially, I was concerned about the cost after receiving the quote, so I went home and did some research in the area. After looking around, I realized that the price was standard for dental extractions, cleaning, and all the necessary medications. So, I decided to move forward with the procedure. The surgery was scheduled for the morning, and I picked her up that afternoon. She was a little out of it from the anesthesia, with her pupils dilated, but otherwise fine. The clinic team was incredible—they called me every day to check on her recovery. By the third day, my sweet girl was back to her usual self! It’s been three weeks now, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The staff at this clinic are professional, compassionate, and took amazing care of my beloved cat. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-notch care. Thank you so much!

I brought my dog in for an emergency visit on Thursday. Everyone in the office was very professional and you can tell that the Vet and the Technician Enrique love their jobs. They were amazing. My dog is very anxious and was very uncomfortable but they handled her with care and love. They even called a few days after our visit to make sure my dog was recovering well. Very grateful to them for helping out Ruby💕 would recommend everyone to come here

My experience, as always, at the Animal Clinic & Hospital of NJ, was wonderful. Sophie, my cat is a healthy 3 year old who got her feline distemper shot with no problem. They handled her gently and lovingly. I have had many cats cared for there and they have always been treated well, even when very sick.

This way first time at this vet and I will for certain be back. Dr. B was the most through vet I have ever been too! He was absolutely wonderful with my very shy cat… as was his staff! Every person we came across was nicer than the next. Dr. B made me feel like I was being listened too. Like he understood and that he had a good handle on what was going on with my cat and that he had a plan to help her. I can not stress enough if you’re looking for a great vet.. look no further than right here!

Found a little neglected and abused dog online saved it and was able to bring him into the vet within 24 hours. Within 48 hours he was able to be neutered, was positive for several parasites, and was immediately given medication. The vet office knows that I have multiple other pets at home and they are able to squeeze them in immediately due to the parasite issue with a little guy. They handle my dogs phenomenally, they’re all extremely friendly, very knowledgeable. They are a bit pricey, but it’s an inner-city veterinary clinic with an experienced and knowledgeable staff. I think I found my vet office for life! Thank you for your help. Yet again, they provided exceptional services to my Pup. Brought my boy Diesel in and they fixed him up very quickly. Got a next day apt after calling in, my concerns were immediately addressed and they handled my 80 lb shepherd with ease. Highly recommend!
